Just found this write up on the RAC page of all places... a bit out of date on prices but who cares. It's the concluding paragraph that made me chuckle.

http://www.rac.co.uk/buying-a-car/car-reviews/pors...

Respect to the RAC for not taking the dry and dusty line.

"the 360bhp GT3 debuted in September 1999, priced at £76,150 - just over £11,000 more than a 911 Carrera 2."

Amazing that, when new, the GT3 was 17% more expensive than the base Carrera.

Now, they are 400% more expensive than a base Carrera.

It's interesting about prices. I only found this article after searching the purchase price of my GT3 in 2003.
Its probably been written about elsewhere, but I wonder if anyone has worked out which cars have overtaken their purchase price and rated them in order of how quickly they did it. Of course cars some shoot up before they even leave the showroom, but to compare regular "classics" like the GT3's, Ferrari 355s etc would be interesting.

They don't think this is the case over on the 500 page 991 GT3 thread. They are saying the 991 GT3 is the best car ever...

Meaningless indeed. The best car ever for me is the one that gives me the best driving experience at any given time. My recent trip back from northern Norway tracking the west coast in a fast moving convoy of 944's will stand out in my memory and be talked about with my co drivers for the rest of my life. My GT3 would have been great too. But in that moment we were all being just blown away by the handling of these underrated cars and having a ball of a 6k mile road trip.

I thought the best car ever was the Boxster, judging by the way you shoe-horn them into every thread.....
