Hi, I'm considering fitting a pair of aftermarket stainless exhaust silencers to my 3.4 996 as my standard units are past their best (and sound a bit rubbish to be fair)!
The car is used on track and I'm concerned that the car won't pass a 98dB static noise test with non standard cans fitted?!
Anybody had any experience of similar?

My Manthey exhaust measured 107db at Snetterton about 10 days ago... Draw your own conclusions...

Never had them tested, but I'd like to get my exhaust volume measured just for interests sake.

It's a stock system that I replaced the back boxes with stainless Dansk sport items. That was earlier this year and it's been getting louder ever since.

My friend has Carnewal mufflers on his 996 3.4 and passed noise testing at Bedford so should be fine for everywhere. Added bonus is they are excellent VFM.

Also, they can be done on an exchange basis. My friend send his off and they were in ste order, Gert still gave him about £150 for them.

OP will need to check whether Gert at Carnewal has any exchange boxes as I enquired for a friend & was told no & my friend used it as an excuse to go to Belgium & he did the exhaust mods whilst he waited & refitted the boxes. There are other replacement possibilities including Dansk & also Design 911 though you need to factor for replacement clamps throughout as most fall to pieces after a couple of years due to rust in my experience. Alternatively you could buy a decent pair of used boxes off the Web & get a bypass pipe mod?
