PORSCHE 911 PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP ME
Discussion
When charging your alternator should be giving an output of 14.7 volts . This can easily be measured with a clip on ammeter on battery lead. If not charging at this rate the cable "slakster " describes can be at fault or the alternator/battery its self is faulty. You need readings taken on battery status/ condition and alternator output to get an accurate diagnosis on your fault (s).
Echo all comments here my 997 Turbo did the same for ages was a lot worse when the engine was warm and it sounded like the text book alternator cable or earth strap problem. I believe Porsche changed the design of the earth strap in 07/08 to a much more robust cable...that said after all that was checked with a voltmeter etc and things tried the only time the car was proper sorted was when the starter motor was replaced as someone above pointed out they and the alternators dont go on forever. My indy got a re-conditioned Bosch one at a third of the cost my OPC wanted for a new one just in case yours turns out to be the same thing.

It could be the weak starter motor/alternator loom on early 997's, i had this and when my c2s was warm it struggled to start up, when cold it was fine.
About £400 to have the cable replaced at an OPC. Far less elsewhere.. The cable
Itself is about £65
Seconded. The 997S.1 I owned developed this problem too. It's caused by the cable that runs from the back of the alternator to the battery developing a higher than normal resistance (due to corrosion in-between the cable and the terminals on the ends, I believe). From memory, there's also a junction box on (or near - can't remember now)) the gearbox that has to be replaced as well as the cables.About £400 to have the cable replaced at an OPC. Far less elsewhere.. The cable
Itself is about £65
To the OP - Parts cost is low and any good independent will do the job at a reasonable price for you as it's a well-known issue. So not a serious problem and it will disappear completely once the bits are replaced. Don't let it spoil your enjoyment of the car.
