I'd get the Turbo 100% .

Imagine what the neighbours would think trading down to a normal 911 after a 458??
fk the neighbours you should always buy what you like
That's settled then.......get the personality bypass 'Turbine' with no driver interaction but silent exhaust to keep the neighbours happy.........hehe

Lol not fussed what the neighbour thinks.

Giggle yes that's a good point re retro exhausts but I'd be a little worried about the manufacturers warranty being voided.

Revisiting those BHP/ RPM figures does make me now think the GTS isn't going to feel much different to the Carrera S/ 4S in terms of power so will I be disappointed as I thought the Carrera S was a bit gutless?

No GTS to drive until next year which really doesn't help. If I only one which would hold its value better at the 2 year point?

Decision made....... Whilst I am attracted to the sports exhaust & the saving on the GTS, I was struggling with it being 100BHP less than the Turbo, so after much deliberation I've decided that more power & almost 1 second quicker 0-60 is more important to me. Turbo cab it is.

Thanks to you all for your comments/ advice

Hope you enjoy it1 Funnily enough, I have made exactly the opposite decision for exactly opposite reason: I find the turbo just too much power to enjoy on the road. The normally aspirated version is just about exactly right for me. Then again, my recent history has been to want less torque, which is of course the signature of a relatively incompetant driver (which I have to admit to).

hi guys, I hope you both enjoy your new purchases when they arrive.

I too was in a bit of a dilemma just a couple of months ago. I had just sold my ferrari f430 and was looking for something a little more usable, but not necessarily an everyday car. I still wanted something that was special enough to pull out of the garage when the mood took me.

I first tested a 2011 997 turbo s cab and loved it. The speed was mind bending! but exhaust a little lacking. I do believe, however that they have now sorted this out with the 991 turbo versions. My budget, however would not stretch to a new turbo. I ended up buying an unregistered 991 4s coupe. The spec of my car includes the sport design kit, which includes the duck tail, the PDK box (wonderful in sports mode and left in auto) the sports chrono package and the all important sports exhaust (The noises the car makes, even below 3000 revs is amazing and the chatter on the overrun lovely. The noise at the higher revs consumes the entire cabin and is addictive)

I am really happy with my purchase and find the car looks beautiful in white with the sports design kit and the black painted wheels, complemented beautifully with the wider rear end of the 4s.

Whilst I enjoyed driving the F430 I was always anxious to put it back in the garage in case something happened to it, with the Porsche the enjoyment is equally as much if not more, the car feels so much more modern, much better gearbox, much better suspension and the confidence that the 4 wheel drive gives allows me to enjoy the car sop much more, that i end up not wanting to put the car back in the garage and also makes me really look forward to the next time I take it out.

They are truly great and i am sure that you will both enjoy them!

Thanks Cymario.

I had a 996 C4S a number of years back then a 997 Turbo last year. As you say the 4WD is fantastic & these cars could out handle your ex 430 & my ex 458 any day.

Your car sounds like a great spec & I agree Porsche make brilliant sports cars. I will be using mine every day which I also couldn't do with my Ferrari. Looking forward to getting into mine! Enjoy yours too.

I changed my mind about turbo's which upto now have been relatively dull to me. Drove the 991 turbo and it literally got my adrenaline going, the best car I have ever driven, up to now was the 599! Exhaust note, throttle response, balance all major advances on the 997. I enjoyed it more than the 991 GT3paperbag

That's reassuring to read Callughan.

I've not driven a 991 GT3 yet but am top of the list for the next gen GT3 due in approx 2 years. Will run the Turbo till then & then enjoy a GT3. That decision is (1) because it's as quick as the Turbo & (2) doesn't really lose any money if you run it for a year or so whereas the Turbo will unfortunately lose some money.

Only small niggle with the Turbo is that you have to run it on Premium unleaded whereas the Carerras & my 458 can be run on standard unleaded. However I can live with that to enjoy the benefits the 991 model has to offer.

Can't believe after spending or funding nigh on 200k you would run a 458 or a Carrera on 95 unleaded to save c6p a litre!

False economy......they run sweeter on higher octane as well as being more economical.

Good luck with gen 2 GT3.......chances are it will be a long wait...thumbup

Just saw the GTS at Westfield, didn't really do it for me apart from the turbo S alloys. The car sounded naff in the auditorium they have created too but of course hard to replicate through speakers.

You absolutely must be joking! It's like buying a £1000 steak and skimping on the fries to go with it.

If you're concerned that the 991 Turbo sounds a bit boring and lacks any exhaust personality have a look and listen at the great Sharkwerks exhaust upgrade! Have one on my 997.2 GTS and heard them on the 997.2 and 991 Turbo and they sound epic giving the more some much needed personality.

Thanks Chris for the link. I'm currently holidaying in Florida & for some reason your link will not open out here?

How long did it take to fit the exhaust to your beast?

Does it affect the Porsche warranty, fitting an after market exhaust upgrade?

On my 997.2 GTS the exhaust swap out was a 2 hour job but on the 991 Turbo & S its a bit more involved with more dismantling to change. I would say a 5 hour job to change.

Once done it is completely reversible (not that you would ever want to!) back to standard.

Warranty wise its very much dependent on your relationship with your OPC as I found out with my GTS. Local OPC said no issues on the warranty on un-associated parts but obviously the exhaust wouldn't be covered (the exhaust isn't covered on Porsche extended warranty anyway). So if a Shock absorber failed it couldn't be linked with the exhaust switch etc. As I said it all depends on your relationship with your dealer.

Have a good holiday!

Thanks Chris for those 2 other links. It does sound very good!

Ok I will speak to my OPC re warranty. I think it will be fine.

Having said good bye to the 458 I'm currently in a Golf GTD until the Turbo arrives early April. Can't wait to feel some power again. The Golf is nice but pretty gutless. Bought it as it barely depreciates in 6-7 months as a run around until the big boy arrives.
