Just wondered if the standard Porsche radio/CD player supports an aftermarket telephone car kit in a 1998 996 please?

I am thinking is there the facility to mute the sound system and use the speakers for say a Parrott kit?

Thanks

I looked into this for my 2002 996 a while back and was advised by a local fitter that extra hardware would be needed to the tune of £300.
No idea if your 1998 model would be the same though.

My 1998 car has the factory option of Sound Pack (speakers in the doors is the easy giveaway) and when I've had the radio out I noticed it doesn't have the usual speaker multi-plug (which consists of pairs of white, green, grey and purple wires for each of the speakers) and instead has finer output wires which go to the boot mounted amplifier.

So, it may be possible to incorporate a mute function but you won't be able to use the usual adaptor lead (where you unplug the stereo and connect the adaptor lead in between the stereo and its two standard connector blocks - one for speakers, the other for power/antenna etc) if you have Sound Pack, you'll need a decent car audio specialist.

However, if you don't have Sound Pack it might be easy.
