As most of you are aware 997 turbos generally understeer and it takes away from the driving experience. I basically lived with it for 8 years.

Recently I upped the width of the wheels to 8.75 x 19 and 12 x 19. Tyres also need to be wider so moved to 245 35 19 and 325 30 19 respectively.

My cars been lowered by -20mm with H&R lowering springs and also now has a GT2 anti roll bar at the rear.

The end result is no understeer.

Most of you probably already know this but for those that have not done this upgrade the end result is truly transformational. My car can now handle the odd track day no problem at all. I believe the key to the handling being transformed are the wider section front tyres and stiffer rear anti roll bar.

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try in the near future.

Good advise OP, only draw back being less progression when the back end does break away due to stiffer rear ARB. Small price to pay though; to dial out the understeer and also not really a concern for 4WD. Enjoy thumbup

Surely this is more about the geo than any of things you have mentioned?

Not sure I am shocked the op has lived with understeer for 8 years or not.

Going by this forum love of N spec and oem geo most people must live with under steering slags for life.

not really. centre gravity set the car up a few times. still understeered horribly but only when pressing on.

Demon I don't believe other models like Cayman or Boxster suffer the same handling issues as a 997 turbo. Seems to be more of a 911 issue but the 2wd cars i drove were not as bad as the 4wd 997 but disliked the way 2wd cars noses bobbed about especially mid corner at high speed could be quite disconcerting. Even the gen 2 997 turbo on track suffered understeer when i was out at Silverstone in a turbo S even with all the torque vectoring etc.

Changes in set up are transformational. 9e carried out this and lots of other work.
