I use the paddles 90% of the time - it's not about what is faster, it's about what is more enjoyable.

The question was, is the 991 GT3 the ultimate drivers car. The answer is nope! Overhyped, overloaded, over heavy.. QED.

For the road (UK), much too fast IMO.

Unless you a) happen to live north of Ulapool, or b) get your thrills operating a car 30/40/50% short of its potential

To be fair to the 991, which high performance sports car in the last ten or even fifteen years could one truly use more than 50% of it's potential on the public road without being very likely to be detained at HM's pleasure for a very long time?

You are absolutely right. Look at my garage. Haven't looked at yours. Was at a porsche invite the other night. Detailing the new 991 GTS. A lot of people who do own more powerful cars than my wee poke, were feeling that Porsche has missed the point too. Hence, heavier, etc.
My previous garage weren't bhp superior, but could keep up with the big boys on the really twisty stuff in Wales. And overtake too, as could nip tween bikes! Heh Heh!

Just look at the alfa with carbon chassis,300 kg lighter than a cayman and i think cheaper.
Porsche have been missing the point for a few years, who wants bigger brakes to pull up more weight, who wants faster gear selection to make it faster. Its a shame really.

Yes, the 991 GT3 at 1430kg din is only 35kg more than the 997 despite PDK and 4ws etc.......and only 10kg more than the 997 GTS PDK.

Despite the inevitable slight increase in size and weight, the 991 still retains the typical 911 ace.....its B road chuckability.....unlike a 458 btw.......driving

But in my opinion, the ultimate drivers 911 it is certainly not. Subjective I know - before anyone offence because none is meant. One Man's meat and all that..

Very accomplished piece of design though.

Yes....all very subjective of course but interesting nontheless.

My 'last favourite' road car manual was an E46 M3 with an E39 M5 running a close second I guess. Great cars of their era as we all know.....but quite honestly if those two were still in my garage today I cannot ever see them being used in preference of the 991 GT3..........

Good Chap. I genuinely hope that the 991 brings you lots of enjoyment. They really are seriously fast cars.

You do remember a PHer on the old thread weighed his 991gt3..... it came in at nearly 1500kg and i think he had bucket seats as well.? 1435kg DIN (ie 90% fuel, all fluids and no driver) it most definitely isn't. The 991 cars also feel a lot larger size wise vs the 997 cars, certainly optically they look a lot bigger even if dimensions wise the gain does not seem as much.

Yes I do remember it being mentioned.......BUT.......the DIN weight of 1430kg according to my handbook is inclusive of 68kg driver weight (average German lol!) and 7kg luggage. Higher specced cars can obviously weigh more......heated seats, sports seats, leather dash, lift, anti dazzle etc etc all add up.

Re the 991 appearing larger I agree but in some ways this may be accentuated by a lower roofline making it look wider.......according to the handbook there appears little difference in the widths at 1.81 and 1.85 but its unclear whether the former 997.2 dimension includes mirrors......confused
