The search goes on, had what I thought was 2 cars at the weekend. One owner changed his mind and decided to wait til the summer to try and maximise his profit. the other car turned out to have belonged to a car club which also rented out their cars. BUYER BEWARE!!! seemed decent car for the money but having done a bit of digging I found out the seller was being a little economical with the truth and the car is out there on a website advertised for hire. the group that owned it is 12 strong and they all share the cars so its prob been ragged to death and I ran away from this deal! lucky escape. this car is advertised and has prob been seen online by a few of you. if the guys were up front and put all the info in there and dropped the price a little then maybe someone would grab it as a cheap in to 996 Turbo world but the secrecy and lies had me running for the hills. wasted my time and money travelling to see it but glad I found out before buying it rather than after!

could you guys recommend Porsche forums to post on? there are cars out there which have yet to be advertised and guys who've gone to dealers for trade-ins and not getting prices they'd like and would be better off going to dealers with cash in their pockets etc. dealer i know told me he offerd 20k to a guy for a black manual 84k car in december but guy wanted 22.

cheers

don't forget you need to add VAT to the Euro price when you bring it in so it bumps up the asking price.

mate went through this when looking for a Euor GT but some good bargains out there with the euro at 1.28 to the £.
Eh? There's no VAT on used cars. It used to be that if importing from a EU country with a lower VAT rate you had to pay the difference, but that was all (besides DVLA £55 first reg fee), so if importing to the UK from a country with a 18% vat rate you'd have to pay 2%. If you imported from a country with a higher vat rate you were unable to claim the difference back though.

However, it looks like that's no longer the case and for cars over 6months old there is no vat of any kind to account for. Have a look here:

Oh thats fantastic. Let me know if you need any info on the car. Is it still in good condition? Its the only car I wish Id never sold.

In terms of rear brakes, they were left standard. I only changed the fronts for 997TT/GT3 calipers/discs.

Any pics, history and background would be appreciated.

Body wise, it is in very good condition, and the wheels are refurbished. Interior is decent, but there is a lot of silver going on, which I intend to tone down.

I think you need to accept all the advice about raising your budget by at least £5-10k or set more realistic expectations. See posts from Japan Red, Jibaro and KAS. The one you mentioned sounds ok at that price. Certainly better value than a CatD at £20k whichh is still reasonable. I think the fact you have been looking since last summer says it all doesn't it?. I bought a 911 over a year ago and got a reasonable deal on one but that car looks £4k more expensive now. Im not bothered as I bought it to drive and keep. I get stopped regularly and asked if I'm selling it. 911 Turbos have always been popular and thinking there's a gleaming £20k mid mileage Turbo that has escaped everyone in the market's notice including dealers isn't realistic. You may have seen a couple you had doubts about but unless you want to accept a compromise on owner/mileage/condition you will carry on looking as the prices continue to creep upwards. As you have a 911 already you are a little protected as presumably your will rise too but if it was me I'd buy the Turbo now and sell the SC in the summer otherwise you will still be regretting you sat on your hands for another 6 months.

thanks appreciate your input and advice. i've been looking since summer but afraid not had the cash till i sold my Cayenne in Dec so not long in a position to actually "go for it". I'm not expecting the holy grail just a decent car circa 100k miles, if thats not possible i'll let it be and move onto something else within the next few weeks

After a bit of time and effort I've managed to get my hands on a £20 996TT. 54 plate black with 122k miles, tip, mechanically perfect, needs an undertray and a low tone horn. needs the front bumper resprayed and wheel refurb. came with original turbo twists and black set of 19" GT2 reps. black car, black leather looks gorgeous and goes great. just had £1200 major service, all coil packs changed and had lots of work done in recent past like all pads and discs. 3 owners last one for 4 years. no accident damage, hpi clear and no known dodgy history. owner upgraded to 997 Turbo. well sorted car needing small money on superficial cosmetic issues to get it to great condition. had upped the available budget to 25k but this one came along and represented great value for money. happy man. smile

I have lots of pics somewhere, Ill dig them out and post up. Yes agreed, someone went a bit loopy with the spec sheet. It was originally owned from new by the director of Tilda/Basmati. Have you got the new invoice and pack? Lots of details in there. In my ownership it had:
Power steering pump, all rads and condensors, actuators, hoses, clutch slave cylinder, clutch, long return coolant pipe (engine out), new OPC fitted front diff, heatshields.

All of the work was done by Diablo Engineering, Tognola and Fearn Sport. I purchased the car from Imperials in Essex and had the inspection and warranty taken out at Chelmsford OPC. Mid Sussex carried out most of the warranty work.

If you ever want to sell it, let me know. Its the one car I wish I never sold.

Thought I had replied to this ages ago but apparently not. Good background, thanks.

The rear brakes turned out to be 997 Turbo calipers and 350mm discs so I finally got them swapped. It is in at the moment for an ABS/PSM warning light that comes on intermittently, hoping they will have it sorted tomorrow. It is booked in for the seats retrimming in the original Metropole Blue, but not ruffled effect as from the factory, I want them as tight as possible like my old Carrera.

Then the final jobs are a nice exhaust, a new splitter as it has a ding in it, and one of the black skirts has a crack so that needs sorting. Not sure whether to get a Milltek or a Remus.

It goes like a rocket and handles nice and tightly for the mileage.

I fixed the spoiler leak myself so no more warning light, took a while to sort but it saved a fortune on a new ram.

Will get some photos up at some stage.
