996 exhaust - hornets nest?

Hayward and Scott do an excellent bypass mod on a standard exhaust set-up. More throaty noise when you want it, but not boomy when on the motorway. Quite a reasonable cost for us too.
Sadly I think that they're a bit far away from you though, they're in Essex
And my exhaust is in need of replacement...Sadly I think that they're a bit far away from you though, they're in Essex
I've just had the designtek sport boxes fitted to my 3.6 996.2 My originals had rusted out.
A little louder at low revs than OE, and great sounding 4k+. Certainly not loud or droney, but perhaps a little subtle for some people.
£500+ vat + fitting
Brookspeed in Eastiegh, hampshire did mine.

Forgot to say I also had them modded with a bypass pipe to replicate the PSE sound (though I wimped out and went for a 1" pipe instead of the full 1.5" so it's not that loud).
Full 1.5"??????The real decision is whether to go for 1.75" or 2".
(I know these clips are 997's)
How is the sound with a 1"?
Have Just fitted the Dansk sport version.
Took 3 hours, although that included giving the exposed areas a good clean and polished up the tips before swapping them across but I ran out of light before I could reattach the bumper so a test drive will have to wait until the morning.
On start up and tick over I couldn't in all honestly hear any real difference, finger crossed it improves over the Rev range under load.
Quality of the unit seems great though, well made, perfect fit, very shiny and well packaged in there own branded draw string bags.

Since the car is used daily I erred on the side of caution; there's virtually no difference at tickover or on a steady throttle but a reasonable gain in the upper rev band and on a wide open throttle albeit without quite the yowl you seem to get with a PSE. If I was doing it again I'd be tempted to go to 1 1/4" but not unhappy with the setup I've got as it's discrete when I need it to be.

When new mine my no difference in sound on tick over, although I did hear the extra loudness on the way home from my indie. Now it's settled in and carboned up, however, the extra volume is noticeable throughout the rev range.IknowJoseph said:

Good to know, I look forward to an improvement in time.LordHaveMurci said:
Right, been looking on eBay & Dansk seem to be the cheapest, followed by Milltek then interestingly, Powerflow which has a vid from a PH'er on the eBay ad. If that PH'er is reading this perhaps you could update us on it? I see the guys who sell it offer fitting & they're only about 45-60mins from me.
Can't remember what my local indie quoted me but it was over £1k & may even have been £1200, that was for a 'Cargraphic type' whatever that might be. Keen to spend less if possible as she is up for a big service etc this year too
I had a Cargraphic exhaust on my C4S (now sadly gone). SOunded great- never boomy, not too loud, but a great sound, and very well built. I would recommend Cargraphic stuff, it is decent (in my opinion). Can't remember what my local indie quoted me but it was over £1k & may even have been £1200, that was for a 'Cargraphic type' whatever that might be. My old 996 turbo (yes, turbo) with a sports exhaust sounded fantastic on tickover, but it was the upper rev ranges that let it down (as you'd expect).

That's helpful, Dansk were in the lead & now you've sown seeds of doubt in my mind
To be fair, I was told that this had never happened before. The silencers were sent to Dansk for analysis, but I never heard the outcome. Happy with the replacements, but I'd probably try something different if going again.IknowJoseph said:

What would you try out of interest?
RPMtechnik were doing a deal on Milltek exhausts and fitting - they're not advertising it any more, but if I was to change today I'd give them a call. I've also heard good things about DesignTek - apparently the Dansk mufflers are hard to get hold of these days and people are going for those instead. I'm not sure about them, however.Replacing my back boxes was done because my 996 generated a huge bill and I wanted to get something extra out of it for myself, so I admit I went for a the cost concious option to make myself feel better and not add too much to the final total.
I'm currently thinking about new manifolds, but am trying to work out if I can get any bargains in Europe or the US and bring them home for fitting.
