Hi all!

I've finally found myself a nice budget to get myself a nice weekend sports car. Ideally, this would also replace my track specced Renault Clio RSsmile

Within my budget (15-20k), quite a few nice 996's pop up. Therefore, I'm interested to hear if these cars are any good on a track day (I'd upgrade brakes and tyres for a start), do you guys track them?

Also, I'm interested whether these standard engines 3.4/3.6 are worth upgrading in terms of intake, manifolds, remap etc. Anything to gain from the more affordable upgrades re performance and responsiveness, before spending big bucks? Furthermore, any arguments for going for a 3.4 or 3.6?

When seeing some car dealerships today, I was quite taken by a silver 996 c2 with gt3 body kit (factory option), black wheels and sports exhaust. This set me thinkingsmile

Happy to hear your take on this!

Read up on jethro bovingdons experience of doing exactly this. Seems to be having fun, with some costs along the way.

Use the search facility, the subject has come up before. If you're an experienced driver and want to add grip etc then definitely change the sump and/or instal the scavenge pump (originally part of the X51 factory power pack, but available as a separate part I believe), otherwise you run the risk of oil starvation.

Sump baffle (+ accusump?) seem to be the important mods.
Standard suspension, especially if original, is going to be too soft for trackdays - find one with fresh m030 sports suspension and it should be OK. Otherwise you're going to need to fit some new stuff.
You might be surprised at how good the brakes are - as long as the pads are up to the job.
