I have an '01 996.
The climate control isn't functioning correctly. It's either blowing air at the highest or lowest settings, but nothing in between, irrespective of the set point on the console.
A kind member advised me about the likely causes, but I've lost the info........any ideas??

More than likely a temp sensor issue; either interior or exterior - if outer temp is registering -40 then any selection other than max cold will result in hot air being supplied for example.

Get the car to a tester, check the AC Actual Values and go from there.

I want to replace the cabin temp sensor first.
Trouble is, I dont know how to remobe it.
Does it come out backwards, from under the bulkhead trim cover, in the front luggage cpmpartment?

Mine has a similar issue, only blows hot air. Need to look into it. So could it be temp sensor of some sorts?

Somewhere on the net are instructions on how to fault find using the buttons on the heater controls. I think it gives values for sensors to see what's not reading correctly. I'm sure I've got a copy in my computer at work. If you haven't found it by Monday, I'll try to post it up.

It's on here somewhere. Do a search for - climate controls hidden menu.
Hope it's of use.

Don't recall coming across this problem before. Not sure what is going on but a cabin sensor, as someone else offered, is a good guess.

My advice would be to take the car in and get the heater/AC controller error codes read. The thing is pretty smart and I bet it could report what is wrong.

Oh, only the early 996 cars had the heater/AC system that you could bring up some kind of diagnostics menu using the control buttons on the face plate and view various settings and such. This system is not in my 2002 Boxster and its auto climate control system nor in my 2003 Turbo and its auto climate control system.
