I have a real dilemma, I currently own a rather unique 7.1RS which is absolutely mental but more to the point; something I will never be able to replace. I have been trying to secure a placement for a 991GT3RS and have been informed that my persistence in annoying OPC's may have paid off. I cannot afford both and would really like an honest opinion on what you would do in my position. Do I sell the best car I am ever likely to drive for the latest RS, with all it's new fandangled technology or stick with my internal calling for proper old school driver involvement combined with Mezger/Akrapovic soundtrack in this passive-clad featherweight.
I only have until the second week of March to make the decision confused

Surely take the RS (bridging the money if needed) and see which you prefer? You aren't going to lose any money on the RS and maybe make a few quid if you decide to keep the older car.

If you've got an RS slot you would stupid to let it go, in my opinion.

Buy the 991RS, drive it for a while, out it for a tidy profit. Keep the old banger in the garage.

I doubt very much owning a 997.1 qualifies you for a free £100K pay day from Porsche.
Why do you think you will get one?

Have you driven the standard 991gt3 yet? the RS will be like that but cranked even more but you will probably want to be sure if you like the new gen of car more vs the older more analogue car that you currently have I would say.

That is a very UK-centric outlook. Have you noticed there is no mental used 991GT3 mark-up on LHD cars. A thread was started today regarding only 2 Polish 991GT3RS's being available and as of yet there are no takers. The UK has this crazy undersupply problem and therefore your perception is that you need to be noshing off the DP in order to stand a chance. It just isn't like that outside of the UK. Ok it certainly isn't a given for the RS but it also isn't exactly that difficult to get your allocation. They stipulate a 10000km/6month anti-speculator signed disclaimer but that's about it.

Tough call. depends on how you use the car. If it's loads of track days, very little road driving and you like being the fastest thing out there on track days, then I'd be tempted by the new car. It's meant to be a big step on from the normal GT3 which is in itself an awesome car. However, if it's for mostly road use with a bit of track use, I'd be tempted to keep the old one. Engaging, old school motor and hardly slumming it either. It is an absolutely wonderful car. Good luck with your decision!

Let me buy your 991 RS, once delivered if you prefer it you buy it from me at cost, if not you keep your 997. Happy to sign any legal contracts required to facilitate. It's a win win for you.

I doubt the 991RS will be as quick as my current car. It has over £100,000 in mods weighs under 1275kg and is knocking on for 460bhp.
If the 991RS offers no manual then I'm oot from the off. I do a mix of driving and have some of the best roads I know on my doorstep so tend to do a bit more fast road than track.

Where did you get this from Pete? I was under the impression official details are still under wraps.

There was an (apparently) official Porsche document posted on here showing the main details of the car.

For now (as expected) PDK-S only.

Then you're oot anyway 991 RS as stated below is PDK only. Probably a good thing, makes your decision a lot easier.

Many thanks for the link guys. It certainly looks legit. I really hoped; following the GT4 Manual antics, that the RS would also be more driver focused. Seeing RWS, PDK, speed sensitive EPAS... all makes me a little sad. I guess this can only have a positive affect on previous Gen values so at least there is something good to come of this to 996/7 owners.

The whole raft of lightweight parts are a great addition (magnesium roof, polycarb windows, Ti exhaust, CF panels). I'm sure this new car will be an absolutely clinical weapon; I just feel the driver interaction you are being deprived of by default will be difficult for many to swallow.

I've now had numerous people sending emails offering to buy my allocation. Judging by this I guess most people here would recommend new over old. I just don't feel I could part with my current RS as it is so unique but the prospect of making a substantial profit is making this decision a little tricky. I have also been contacted by the OPC today to sign the reservation document...

Do it! Keep the 997.1 and buy the RS using a deposit and a finance deal and then sell it 6 months later for a massive profit if you don't like it! biggrin

They have stipulated a clause regarding the 10000km prior to sale. I don't know how that stands up legally or how they would know if I sold overseas; something I need to look a little deeper into scratchchin
