911 Gen 1 bore score - real life problem?

Does anyone know the REAL risk percentage of bore score with the Gen 1 997? I have a budget of 30k so can't stretch to a Gen 2, but a lot of people strongly warn against gen 1.
Is the risk a significant one? I won't have a spare 10k sat for an engine rebuild if the worse happens.
The only people that probably know for sure are Porsche and they will never say.Is the risk a significant one? I won't have a spare 10k sat for an engine rebuild if the worse happens.
Most specialists in this area believe that they will all score their bores eventually. But you can reduce this likelehood and maybe even remove it completely.
Low Temp thermostat
Extra radiator
Driving style
I would certainly be fitting the above if I owned one.
There are lots of bore score hysterics here and I would ignore most of their speculation on actual figures unless they can provide more than anecdotal evidence. This months gt magazine has an article by Peter Morgan with a bit more balance. It may not make for pleasant reading depending on model you want but I would start there.
Find another 5k for a 997.2. It is worth it for many reasons, not just the DFI engine...

^^^Thisdo your homework (here, 911UK)
do the checks (exhausts, oil usage, boroscope)
take the preventative measures (low cost)

It hardly matters what the overall percentage is. You'll either be affected or you won't. If you have no more money and can't afford the repair then just buy something else. Get a Merc or BMW and try Porsche again later on.
I agree and disagree with this. If the real life percentage was circa 1% then I would take a chance ( I could get the repair money if needed but obviously wouldn't want to have to), where as if it was 5% and comes to the eqiviulant risk of 1 in 20 rather than 1 in 100 I probably wouldn't. Thanks for the comments though and fully appreciate what you are getting at.Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
