I've had my 2008 C4S for 3 weeks now and absolutely love it. I've already bought and fitted some new wheels (upgraded to Turbo style from Lobsters).

A sports exhaust and some alcantara are on the horizon later this year too.

In terms of retrofits and modifications, what else is possible to enhance the ownership experience?

What would the sports chrono give me? I thought it was just a lap timer?

What's involved with retrofitting cruise control?

All opinions are welcome but I don't agree. Horses for courses though ;-)

Different throttle map that reduces the travel of the pedal, relaxed PSM intervention and opens valves on PSE if fitted.

Had the cruse control priced on mine last week at £525 at OPC I belive you can get it done a little cheaper an Indy but if it's a warrenty issue OPC is the only way to go.

Here's a few for starters:

1) A full exhaust system (manifolds, 200-cell cats, silencers). Cargraphic and AWE both have awesome-sounding systems that make the PSE sound tame. They also give you somewhere between 25 and 30 extra real-world BHP, along with noticeably more mid-range torque, for not THAT much more than the cosmetic-and-sound-only PSE upgrade.

2) A BMC-F1 panel filter. This doesn't add much by way of BHP, but makes a big difference to driveability. It's able to do so as the standard paper filter is borderline too small. As the BMC flows a lot more air per sq. inch, it sharpens the throttle response no-end.

3) A kit to block-off or eliminate the resonator in the standard airbox. Puts back the luvverly induction noise Porsche removed.

4) Throw-out the standard suspension and have Bilstein PSS-10 or B16 Damptronic coilovers fitted by Center Gravity. Together with sensible lowering, full corner-weight and custom geo setup, the difference in handling and responsiveness is HUGE.

5) Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres. Massive increase in wet/dry grip and responsiveness, even compared to Pilot Sport 2. Compared to Pirellis, you'd think the PSS was designed by aliens with a technology light years ahead!

I'd also go with any preventative measures recommended by Hartech for your car. Doing so will give you peace of mind with regard to intermediate shaft bearing and bore scoring issues. You're just left to enjoy using all your car's performance to the full.

What do you mean by number 3, what is this and how is it achieved?

Hi Jonesy

The standard airbox in the 996 and 997.1 has a Helmholz resonator (silencer) in the intake system that kills induction noise most of the time. The silencer is located inside the top of the airbox. If you look at the intake air hose on the car, you'll notice it has an additional tube exiting from the left side that connects to the Helmholz resonator allowing it to do its work. I've highlighted it in the pic below:

The kit I referred to (often erroneously called a Cold Air Intake) eliminates the connection to the Hemholz resonator, removing the silencing and giving you back the engine's natural induction noise. The pic below is the Fabspeed kit from the USA. Designtek offers a very similar kit in the UK that's available from Design911. (http://www.design911.co.uk)
