AWESOME picture :-)

Was thinking to take mine for a drive this morning. Starting west London. But the choice of nice roads without having to take up the whole day is definitely limited. Seems valley of horses pretty much only place to go.. Maybe around Gaydon with a bit more time.. :-(

I need a Sunday morning teletransporter to Wales or Scotland.
Hi Rosino ... As a fellow London resident (N6) I have the same issue - where to go on a Sunday morning? After a decade of trial and error I have really only found two solutions that work: (i) Get up at about 4am on Sunday and go play in the South Downs area before all the motorbikes and others get there, or (ii) drive to Wales / Yorkshire / etc on Saturday evening, stay the night somewhere nice, and then up with the larks. Drive from 7am to about 11am and then head home for a late lunch.

I had a great weekend in N Yorkshire last weekend - I ran the A684 from M6 to A1 via Sedburgh, Hawes, Leyburn, etc on the Saturday late afternoon (for some reason almost no traffic), stayed the night in Rudding Park hotel near Harrogate and then over to Kirkbymoorside, Castleton, Whitby, etc bright and early on the Sunday. A1 southbound was closed, so journey back a bit of a pain on the M1, but I was still home for lunch just after 2pm. Just under 600 miles but all up I was out of the house almost exactly a day and had 4-5 hours on some of the best roads in the north of England and most of the time not many others out there with me. Just enough to require several bouts of gratuitous over-taking ... Sometimes it takes a bit of commitment to have some fun !! smile

Thanks to JJ Matrixx for resurrecting the thread - I didn't know where to lurk, so now all is well in the world again. Agreed with the previous comments that I hope we can keep this thread off the topic of "money" (in its widest sense). Let's focus on the cars and how/where best to use them. First ever track day for me at Goodwood on 4th July - if anyone else is going, please be gentle with me, I'll be the newbie going at half the speed of everyone else !!

By way of general information.

Mine went in to have an annoying rattle fixed on Friday, non-locking cup holder vibrating on cup holder cover.
At the same time a workshop campaign item was sorted ... Front lift lines checked and tightened. Not that the front lift had been causing a problem.

No no no, it always rains in Scotland, food is terrible, people horrible.....! Keep Away!

smile , the all more tarmac for me.

BTW the tightening of the from lift system pipe work is a "update" which all 991 GT3s will get when in for a service etc. I just had my oil changed at 1200 miles last week and OPC did mine.

Thanks for that - Am I right in thinking that the GT3 needs a service after the first year, like the other 991's which have 20,000 miles / 2-year service intervals?

Anyone know what is included in the 1-year service and what it costs?

Thanks

No I believe the GT3 is still 2 years 20,000 miles service interval.

Was in Kent for the weekend and managed to get some pretty good runs.. Nothing like Wales,Scotland or the Black Forest but still thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks to PH for some good tips. Ashford to Tenderden using along the way the A252 which might be only A road in the area without a 50 limit. Then onto Rye and its military road. Come back through Smarden and back through Challock to have another taste of the A252.

Failed to wake up at 6am this morning as planned but start at 8h30 and managed to get a pretty clear road with overtaking possible where necessary. Have to say the GT3 copes well with the abysmal condition of our roads but some sections were just atrocious and had to slow down to more conservative speeds.. It feels money has run out 10years ago and no decent resurfacing has occurre since. Shocking in places really.

Gratuitous sunshine pics.

Quick question about oil changes. I'm at 8 months / 4,500 miles and have been keeping the oil in the 50-80% range all the way through, but have never had it changed completely. Is that a mistake? Should I book in to have a complete oil change? As posted above, I've got a track day on 4th July and so was thinking of booking the car in to have it looked over (oil change / tires checked / etc.) soon afterwards, as that will be almost a year. Should I maybe book it in before the track day instead ?

Rosino - thanks for the advice re roads in Kent, I'll give them a try. The roads in the South Downs, such as the A272 and the A286 (with Midhurst in the middle) get very busy, but if you get them on a good (early) morning they can be epic. I keep thinking that there ought to be some good roads in an around Essex because once you get north of Braintree there are some big blank bits on the map, but I've never found anything I'd recommend - do any PH'ers know the area. As a north London-er it would be much easier for me to get to than Sussex and Kent !

Will try to remember to take photos next time I'm out, but I'm usually too focused on the driving (and as my car is white, 80% of you know what it looks like !).

GT3 first service is 2yrs or 12,000 miles according to my source which is the service book in the glove box.
Thanks for the confirmation.

As for doing it more frequently than that, I'd suggest the manufacturer and oil supplier went through a whole load of test work to ensure the oil was still performing at 12,000 miles and 2 years. Why would you change it sooner?
According to those that have had an oil change after running in, the old oil had a fair amount of 'debris' in it, so they are pleased they did have this replaced.

I'll probably get mine changed after 1-year, particularly if the car needs to go to the dealer for a front axle lift check up.

It is NOT a requirement to have the oil changed before 2 years, 12k miles. I just did it because I personally think its a good think to do. Is it possibly over the top, maybe, but maybe so is owning a GT3 :-)

Anybody on the 3rd engine here?

Been to OPC the other week and they told me they had a car where the eninge light came on on track. Found some shavings or something in the oil and Germany told them to replace and send engine back.

Cool, must be one of the highest mileage cars I've seen. Well done.

Mine's on 4,000 miles and, after carefully running-in, is a sweet as can be.
Enjoyed our Highland Run at the end of April putting around 750 miles under the wheels and enjoyed every moment.
No plans on letting it go anytime soon. Its fantastic.

I wonder if its going to be like the 997 4.0 RS where it took Porsche a little while to get it right.
A pal told me that last year he had been to the OPC nearest the Ring and there were 20 4.0s having/waiting for new engines.
I guess we are conditioned to engine swaps now anyway so what does it actually matter if a car is on engine 2 3 or even 4 as long as its got the one that now works and will continue to do so. I'm assuming that any engine supplied will have a modification/improvement over the engine its replacing.

Had noticed the large number for sale; no worries to me. Still loving every moment with mine.
Would be interesting to know why so many currently around though.
Leaving for an arriving GT3 RS ( delays I believe ! Engine testing & back log on bucket seats of 6 weeks)?
Swapping for a GT4?
Capitalising on the strong margins?
Any other theories?
Only on 1300 miles with my own, as not been able to drive for last 10'weeks!
Back in the seat now after a Swissvax waxing the weekend; it looked great after.
