hi all;
as this is the owners discussion place...

Have any of you noticed the following behaviour ?
at low revs, i.e. manoeuvring for parking etc, the car 'chunters' - technical term smile

Hard to describe - it feels like my old 996.1 Clubsport did - which surprises me a bit;
I always put this down to the lightweight flywheel and diff in that car.

Needs about 1.8K rpm for the 'clutch' to pick up, does drop a little when warm
also, when cold, moving off in first, it can jolt into gear slightly, and then does a mini kangaroo - I say mini - it's nowhere near as bad as my 997 Cup car could be - I thought the engine was going to pop off its mounts sometimes when it did it, usually down the pitlane....

Any similar experiences from owners on here ?

Not exactly, transmission on mine was very "clattery" at low speed over the first couple of thousand miles, but has quietend with use, mileage now at just over 6.5k. Even during some real stop start progress in Stuttgart last week the "clatter" was not obtrusive. Revs never much over 1500.

Only had a thump from the engine once and that was pulling away in a car park, having parked on a fairly steep slope and put the thump down to me being a bit heavy with the right foot to avoid rolling back into the car parked behind.

I drove a friends new 991 Turbo S last week and was quite surprised at the difference with the GT3. It was like driving a saloon car compared to the GT3. You sit higher; the steering has little feel in comparison as do the brakes. Maybe it’s the ceramic brakes but you only have to feather the brake pedal and they bite quite sharply (my GT3 has steels). Apart from the massive power and torque the car is a big disappointment compared to a GT3 IMHO. I know they are totally different cars but still can't believe the difference. Got me thinking that it would be hard to go back to anything other than a GT3/GT3RS in the future.

I agree with this - I had a 991 C2S , that I loved , drove the 3 and now it's ruined - no going back smile

Hi, I've owned 2 different 991 GT3s, but neither has displayed the characteristics you describe. I never experienced a 'jolt' into gear, or a mini kangaroo.

A significant difference between the mapping of the PDK gearbox on the regular 991 range (including turbo) and the GT3 is that the GT3 does not have any clutch 'creep' built in, so you have to give it some throttle to get it to move off. I'm guessing this is just calibration of the clutch's bite point..?

I'd go and take it to the dealer to get it looked at, doesn't sound like it will improve by itself...

My 991GT3 relates to red997 post, its a GT3 after all. Nothing wrong with mine though, well, as far as I know. All clunky chunky noises smooth out though when she is warmed up..

Yes no going back for me
All too sterile now
My 9934S is the only other car that gets close - for me anyway
Slower by a long way but just a great great car
And no red stitching in sight !

I'd agree that a few clunks seems fairly normal, particularly when the car is cold!

thanks all;
I think its that there is no clutch creep that is the main difference;
My only real reference point for PDK was that fitted to my Panamera Turbo - and that was silky smooth.
Yes, all the clunks etc go away when warm, with in a minute or so - no problems.
Its now seen some higher speeds (180+) and is going like the clappers !

There is a big difference in how steels v pccb feels.... pccb's worth the extra all day long imv and not even close (having experienced steels in 1gt3 and pccb in 1tts)... steels feel dead by comparison.

Zero, I have no experience of pccb’s and only had a short run in the new turbo. But the way they bite in really hard with just a gentle press on the pedal seemed a bit out of place to me. Am I correct in my assessment that you need to press much harder on the steels? This being the case, then the steels to me would have better feel or maybe I need a proper good run on the pccb’s.

I've now had experience with both Steel and PCCB

Steels have a softer bite - easier for most to control at 'normal' road speeds

PCCB require a gentle right foot at normal speeds;

however, get them on a track, and the PCCBs are fare more linear in feel;
braking from 180MPH plus with no ABS pulling 1.7G continuous (obviously surface plays a part here too !)
no fade, even after repeated attempts, with little cool down.

Steels under these condition IMHO were grumbling by now and no where near as linear

Hi all, thinking about dipping my toe into the GT3 market, what are your thoughts on this?
What would have cost new?
What are your thoughts on specification and colour?
Worth the money or worth the haggle?

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Thanks in advance.
