My Golf makes a knocking/thumping noise from the rear when I brake abruptly at low speed (5 km/h), especially when reversing. There's nothing loose in the spare wheel well and dealer says "they all do that". Car is less than a month old. Any mk7 owners in here can tell me if their car makes a noise or not?

Sounds like the brake pads are moving slightly within the caliper

Anything I can do about that? Tighten them somehow?

I am having the same issue. When reversing I hear a shutter/thumping/grinding noise almost, hard to explain in words. I also hear the same sound when I brake from roughly 10mph to 0. I have not had it checked out yet, but I assumed it was from all the mods I put on it (thought it might by my dp rattling). Hoping to have it looked at when I go in for 20k service. Any updates on this? Any solutions?

I've learned to live with mine. The noise is either gone or I simply don't notice it anymore.

The quality of VAG braking components these days certainly leaves a lot to be desired. Don't know if they've changed suppliers or beat the suppliers down on price but they are gash.
