MSA list 1a/1b for Porsche 996 GT3
Discussion
Racers, what are you currently using from the MSA list? It's been 5 years since I last raced the 996 and back then if the series didn't allow for slicks, then Michelin Cups were the default choice.
Is the Cup 2 now the new default? What else should I be considering? (Happy to consider left-field choices - I think Ade uses Federal 595 RSR - is performance similar to Cups?).
Ideally I'd prefer not to carry 2 sets everywhere so would like a tyre that gets me round a wet track as well.

I use Cup 2 s now, previously cups. IMHO you will find you need two sets as any 1b tyre will not have sufficient thread after dry use if it becomes a wet race later. New Cup 2s are ok in the wet, when they ( or any similiar tyre ) wear they are not.
And if you use 1 A or other tyres with deeper thread they will be considerably slower in the dry.

Hey Irfan..
Federal 595 are ok and cheap but only available up to 285 section... in the current market I'd go for Cup1's for dry and Cup2's for wet.. please let me know when your next planning out on track
Ah, I wasn't aware that the original Cups were better than Cup 2s in the dry.Federal 595 are ok and cheap but only available up to 285 section... in the current market I'd go for Cup1's for dry and Cup2's for wet.. please let me know when your next planning out on track
Just run the engine in and planning to be run for the first time in anger at the CSCC race at Brands on 31 May. My first ever look at the circuit will be quali and I will be hypersensitive to every rattle and clonk, so I suspect I will be circulating at the back (best get the excuses in early, eh)....

Pirelli Trofeo R are on list 1b right?
These are faster than MPSC2 tyres by a good bit so you may want to give these a try if you were thinking of running cups.
Thanks Neil. Hadn't considered the Pirelli. The non-R is on the list, and then something called a "P Zeri Torfeo R12" which might be the mother of all typos. Wonder if that's meant to be Trofeo R?These are faster than MPSC2 tyres by a good bit so you may want to give these a try if you were thinking of running cups.

I'm not a racer, but I hear that the Trofeo R are quicker and wear much faster too...perhaps someone can confirmThese are faster than MPSC2 tyres by a good bit so you may want to give these a try if you were thinking of running cups.
