Looks like you've got a really nice car there. Well done! Reminds me of the first GT3 I seriously looked at buying over 5 years ago from a friend. The price then was approximately £60k. I ended up buying a Cayman S Sport as my first Porsche because I wasn't ready to commit to spending that much money on a car; however, whilst the Cayman was an amazing drive I kept looking at GT3's and driving them. The magic was still there so I kept looking but the values at the OPC's didn't seem to change. Year on year they were still £65-£70k.

I finally took the plunge on my 40th and committed to a lovely 997.1 GT3 in GT Silver, clubsport trim, extended leather etc. Whilst it was was a lot of money to have tied up in a car, I was comforted by the fact that it would cost me no more in depreciation than a £30k performance saloon car. At the time I had no idea that values would rise over such a short period of time and fully accepted that it would depreciate (hopefully slowly) in comparison to most other cars of a similar value.

I'm now seeing 997.1 GT3s up for sale at the same price (or more in some instances) as my last 997.2 GT3 that I bought 3 years ago (2,500 on the clock, PTS, lift, ceramics, clubsport, lightweight seats etc) which tells me the market is certainly at a high. The only thing for sure is that these cars offer one of THE best driving experiences around for realistic money and they will continue to be highly sought after.

For those of fortunate enough to afford one of these cars it's a real bonus that our motors aren't losing money and it's certainly keeping the total cost of ownership down! However, for those wanting to get into the market, like I was a few years ago (or for someone looking to upgrade to an RS maybe), it is a very frustrating time indeed.

I count myself as being very lucky to have bought one of these cars when I did and to be totally satisfied with it as it is smile
Defo one or two with some pentup frustration on this thread! :-o

Hi F10pp3 I just missed out on buying your 997gt3 and ended buying the 996. As regards to prices of 996/997GT3 dropping. While I was filling in the paperwork on my 997 there was another customer wanting to buy it. As I said no more merger .I think the 991 is a completely different animal so no direct correlation in price comparison imo

That looks a very nice car, and should be a lot of fun.

In January I bought a one owner 997.2 CS lift and lightweight buckets and reckon these are cracking cars that are designed to be enjoyed by an average driver. I came at it via 964RS and 996.2 GT3 and so far find it nearest to my preferred compromise between performance, security and comfort.

Off for the first track day of the season at Anglesey on Saturday so that will be a learning experience for sure. Then to France for a week of D routes.

Cost wise? I had cruise retrofitted and the sat nav upgrade. Chris at CG set the car up to factory including the ride height, though fortunately the spring perches weren’t seized so could be adjusted on the car. I’m planning in terms of discs, pads and tyres at the end of the year and will renew the OPC warranty. Say £5-7.5k this year should hopefully keep the car in decent condition.

70k for a 8 to 10 year old Porsche that needs work does not = bargain in my book!
If you are looking for a bargain, you probably shouldn't be looking at Porsche GT cars..

But I hear your point (and feeling it..) these cars can certainly eat cash and I can see 10k disappearing down a Porsche GT sized whole very easily.

However it's mostly scaremongering by people who missed the boat, or are not intending to buy anyway as everything on the above list can be avoided with a proper PPI.

I fked up with my inspection, and am paying for it. Rads, dampers and semi shagged brakes. Schoolboy error but completely unnecessary.

That's what you get if you do something as stupid as trusting people rolleyes

Noooo, I am not THAT naive! wink

The owner and a trader who sold it twice previously. I think they were more incompetent then deceiving, hard to tell.

But yeah, I was pretty stupid. Having OPC perform a PPI was perhaps the most stupid thing I did!

The OPC PPI is just a box-ticking exercise, an independent inspection is the way to go..... though I guess you found that out the hard way frown

Well I had an idea of that beforehand, but from talking (lots) to the owner, a previous seller of the car and the guy who mapped the engine and serviced wastegates/actuators back in November I felt I had a good idea of the car already. I thought I had enough of cross referencing going on that a OPC 111 test would just sort of confirm to me it was a good car, and in fact it did. It's only they were wrong!

Still I think it's a good car, and the fact is I would not be sitting here with a GT2 if I knew about this stuff. Maybe a blessing in disguise? (very well disguised..)
