More about rotational mass that's a much bigger change over unsprung mass.

18kg even unsprung in context of a car that weighs probably almost 1500kg without driver really going to be significant?
Yes. Some light reading here - http://www.rqriley.com/suspensn.htmwink

Basically, in chassis design, there are numerous benefits from reducing the unsprung weight. Various ratios are cited, but a saving of 18kg in unsprung weight is considered equivalent to as much as 120kg of sprung weight.

I agree, in the scheme of things, it seems insignificant. But, unsprung weight is is what moves over bumps and surface changes, so on a less than perfect road, that much mass creating less momentum in the way the wheel tracks & follows the surface is pretty large
I dare you to do the PCCB challenge. Drive two GT3s back to back without knowing the brake setups and pick the car on each setup purely through the ride... nobody could do it.

I'll be the first to admit I've not done it back to back in a GT3, but I have in both a V10 R8 and an RS4, and the difference on the road is certainly tangible
On the track, I'm not so sure as the surfaces are typically much better than the road

Yeh, thing is the GTS has:

Intrax suspension with ARC in place of the KWs BMW fit
Brembo Type III race discs, custom bells and Endless MA54B pads in place of the chocolate rubbish BMW fit
Two additional DCT coolers and pumps so you can run all day
GT4 carbon brake ducts with appropriate ducting to the front bumper
Various other carbon bits and Lithium battery to save weight
Full Akrapovic titanium exhaust
Carbon plenum, air filter and airbox
ESS remap and underdrive pulleys
BBS Forged FI rims (8kgs front and 9kgs rear)

Car is extremely well sorted and with 475bhp and 1475kgs is very competitive

Here is a video of Jake Hill, British GT driver, doing a 2:22.00 at Silverstone in it in his 4th ever lap in it, 2up, road legal tyres and full of fuel. He also places it above Spaz and GT3.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1oXB57x1k0

GTS is now having a full engine build to take it up to 4.6 and somewhere in the 550bhp range. I admit it is a distance away from a standard M3 GTS and without any power mods is approx. 10s a lap faster at Silverstone than a standard GTS. Fabulous car all the same.

I only paid £89k for it originally and did these changes so it could run cost effectively on track. I can do hour long sessions without drop-off. Discs last around 6 days, pads 4 days, tyres 4 to 6 days etc

love your CSL. What a machine.
Had the pleasure of seeing your GTS in person as well.

people quote like for like size's when talking about weight, but Porsche always fit much bigger disks in ceramics over steel.

I made the point above - the PCCBs on the GT3 are 10% bigger than the steels, which equates to 21% heavier (for the same material).

Quick update on the number of 991 GT3's for sale at OPC's. Now only 12!!! So much for all the scaremongering. Sold mine almost immediately, delighted with the price achieved. It was the best car I have ever driven or owned by a truly vast margin. Can't imagine what I will buy next. wink

Well, at least you managed to profit at the expense of an enthusiast that couldn't get a build slot wink I assume you are returning to ownership once prices drop.

Same as you Mate! My RS is specced and locked in for November build! Molly and I are off to Silverstone on Monday to drive one. The oh so obliging Porsche people are laying on a RS and a GT3 so that we can run them back to back for a direct comparison. I have paid the extra so it means that we will be on the circuit at the same time. tongue out
