997 Turbo Prices

not so sir, I have a 997 turbo which I would swap for a 993 or a 964 3.6 in a heartbeat, but not a 996
Trade my 6T that goes like a fighter jet with modern safety systems and ventilation for a 930 or 964 laggy leaky rusty rotten bathtub, are you joking, not for all the tea in China Sir......
I would swap my 996tt for a 964t if and only if I just wanted to look at it
I would swap it for a 993tt if and only if I cared about future appreciation (they are a very stodgy drive otherwise)
I would swap it for a 997.1tt..... er, never - not as a straight swap, and not for money my way either !
Fact is, 997.1tt and 996tt do feel very very different to drive..... I believe the 996 is the perfect inflexion point between old skool and modern Porsche... it retains far far better steering feel than 997, it has a more fluid chassis feel that is uncorrupted by a schizophrenic PTM, it runs passive damping instead of PASM, and its look is simple, clean, and absent the glitzy wheels and over-stylised features.
The only caveat I'd make re 996tt is that there are a lot of dogs out there, so finding a good'un is a much tougher prospect than finding a good 997tt, and the interior of the 996tt can look appallingly cheap and nasty if badly specced/coloured and without full leather (from the large ali/carbon etc packages).

Good, so I think we can all agree then - our cars are the best 911 turbos.
Let's go back to the original topic of 997 turbo prices.......
But the original topic of 997 prices can't be referred to without coming back to the 996Let's go back to the original topic of 997 turbo prices.......
Whether 997 prices should also inflate due to inflating 996 prices does inevitably come back to people discussing the differences in how the cars drive, how they make you feel, and how they look, because along with numbers built, that will determine where we all think values should be relative to not just the 996 but also the earlier, and the later models.
In other words, we are still very much on topic re the OP's question !
Ok let's carry on arguing about which has the better interior and which handles better, sorry I was just getting a little bored, as everyone has a huge bias towards their own choice.
At least they made a few less 997 turbos which surprised me but I guess down to economic downturn during 997 production

because it is not specced with THE only must-have option on a 997 turbo - sports chronohttp://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
I can not see a 997.1 turbo being an investment. Cheapish sports car to run around in subject to nothing catastrophic going wrong i.e. £2-3k a year to run with little depreciation. Having said that if you lose an engine or gearbox they can be very expensive to fix.
Porsche wanted to charge me £35k for a new engine! The repair (I was going to upgrade to 3.8L) was even more at circa £40-50k!!

Why did it need a new engine? Porsche wanted to charge me £35k for a new engine! The repair (I was going to upgrade to 3.8L) was even more at circa £40-50k!!

Thank mate
You saved me a journey to Chester, was about to drive up and buy it until you pointed it out i must have overlooked the clock/stopwatch
Thanks for the sarcastic reply, you asked a question, I guessed a reason, or perhaps you forgot the smiley and I am being overly sensitive. You saved me a journey to Chester, was about to drive up and buy it until you pointed it out i must have overlooked the clock/stopwatch
To me that looks a good car if it had chrono, at an OK price - when I bought one sports chrono and adaptive seats were my must haves and anything extra was a bonus. Most buyers won't know chrono can be retrofitted and/or would be too afraid to do it and lose the 2 year warranty this car comes with

£62k IMHO - v nice spec with PCCBhttp://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...
The OPC one is £62k but with PCM3 and similar miles - reckon I would go for that one and pay full asking if OPC retrofitted sports chrono
