You saved me a journey to Chester, was about to drive up and buy it until you pointed it out i must have overlooked the clock/stopwatch
The lack of sports chrono on a 997 turbo has always been a turn off - why buy a car without the overboost option when so many came equipped with it?

I've had a few forced induction 911's
930 5 speed 89 epic to look at very raw quick in feel in other words all or nothing, by the time "all" wakes up the Golf R has gone
964 turbo as above but with ABS coil spring shockers and PAS, oh and it's pretty
996 GT2, if I was a professional driver I'd still have it, God I wish I was.
996 Turbo x 3

The end

Forget vales who gives a monkeys if I did I'd cry myself to sleep every night based on my CV.

997 Turbo values?

Not bothered it's a 911 Turbo so it's an epic car like all 911 Turbo's, is a 996 Turbo better and rawer?, to some it is to others it isn't, will it be worth more? Who gives a sh*t, for me there both great cars and if you buy right you won't lose your shirt.

993 Turbo
Nearly bought one for 39k once needed a bit of paint where all 993's go windscreen, leading edge rear wing etc and like most 993's it was silver, drove it, went well sounded like an air cooled, buttons in the wrong place all the quirks I love, but and there's a big but, if it was worth the same as a 6 or a 7 would you take it in preference?
For me not a chance.

Anyway as always on PH and I've been guilty historically it's about values rather than what the car does.

Prices are definitely firming up which is nice and I think fully deserved given its abilities as not only a daily driver but also a bona fide Supercar

I decided to sell R8 V10 manual to buy a 997.1 Manual as I wanted something as capable but with a bit more luggage space and a bit less in your face as using daily.

the hardest part was finding a manual with low miles and Sports Chrono with an acceptable interior, quite amazed what % where Tiptronic but clearly Tip is popular for a reason.

Finally i dropped lucky and got a 2006 Basalt Black / Stone Grey leather car with PCCB / SC and literally masses of nice carbon interior options, adaptive seats aswell as some interesting mechanical options 'rear axle diff lock' & 'sport shifter' and a bit a DMS tweekery.

after 3 months and some fresh rubber I have to say I am thoroughly smitten and can't see myself parting with it anytime soon its got that lovely ability to blend in has a lovely interior with good old fashioned 'sunroof' and you can drive it sedately or unleash it at your favourite bit of tarmac and I doubt much except a GTR would keep up particularly if you add a bit of damp or rain.

the big annoyance is the lack of Bluetooth or MP3 connectivity (next job) and of course they can't match screaming Italian V8's or V10's for soundtrack.

To anyone thinking of a 997 Turbo - go for it you will not be sorry and bought right it can represent a very cost effective decision.

Isn't a remap on a 997 TT basically like leaving the over boost on all the time?

I don't know, but assume that it is.
I'd be interested to know why Porsche limited the availability of overboost on the 997.1 turbo. I think that the 997.2 turbo S had overboost available without the limitation.
My car's still under warranty so the remap is out of the question for now, but I'd like to know what the remap can do and whether it creates any serious risks for the £35k engine cos' I quite fancy a remap and fitting a Europipe system once the car's out of warranty (in 2018)!

£50-55k, especially if you can get a 2009 from opc with same miles for just over £60k

Good to hear your positive views. I'm about to swap my 996.2 GT3, for a manual 997.1. I'm looking forward to it. Always thought the 996.2 was damn ugly, from the front.

I'd happily buy a turbo with sc as retrofit. More attractive in fact as you don't have to put up with the eyesore on the dash.

I own a 997.1 turbo which has SC. I really don't get the obsession with having SC. I generally drive with it switched off. It does make a difference, but the car is so far fast without it, I tend to forget SC exists. As for the chrono gauge; total waste of time IMO as it's very clunky to use (and frankly have no idea when I would ever use it). Retrofit SC (without gauge) is a really good option if you really want it. However, the market demands SC, as non SC cars sit around for a long time!

I have had mine a few months and it's impressed me more than I expected. I'd recommend one. I saw a lot of poor condition cars before I bought mine and it was a bit of a challenge to find a good one (although I am very fussy).

Hey all,

I've been reading the Pistonheads forum for years but never actually posted anything! Found this topic very interesting as it is good to read all the different opinions!

i have always wanted to own a 911 turbo, some of you might have seen the 997.1 white 911 turbo coupe that was for sale around August time at Parkway Specialist cars? I actually went and picked this one up!

Fell in love with it straight away, had 12,000 in the clock and was mint inside and out.

It is a tip-tronic, and after reading this i can see that the manual seem to be everyones favourite but i set out to always buy a Tip! looked at the 997.2 but this one seemed like a great buy to me. (Might be wrong, i don't know)

Didn't buy it as an investment, but i did buy it with the hope of not losing much money (if any)

But anyway, always wanted one, got one and absolutely love it smile

I have a 997.1 Turbo without SC... Don't see the obsession with it personally. I just looked for the best car I could and when I found the one I wanted I snapped it up, as I knew the overboost was easy retrofit.

I've since had the sport button retro fitted which obviously makes quite a difference, but whether it was worth the money is open to debate. The dash certainly looks better without the clock.

For me the only essential option I wanted was adaptive sports seats.

I don't like the look of them at all, compared to the 996T with clean lines, I
think they look s**t....I think that they lost it big time, does nothing for me..
Nothing sophisticated about it, trashy looking....

Yeah. Calm the fk down mate. I wasn't asking for your opinion. I had a 996 C4S before getting the 997 and appreciate the looks. My comment was more about the Sport Chrono. rolleyes

I think you probably need a visit to Specsavers.

Could have bought a few 996 turbos for the money I paid for my gen 2 997 turbo.

If the 996 turbo was such a looker I'm sure I wouldn't have bought my 997 turbo.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
