I seem to remember reading that 918 owners were offered a 911 turbo to keep them amused whilst they waited for delivery of their car.

Whilst i haven't done any extensive searches, i don't recall seeing any mention of these turbos. Was the idea dropped or are they out there somewhere?

You're not going mad! There was one for sale last year.

There was a cabriolet 918 spyder edition turbo for sale a month or two ago as an approved used car at one of the OPC's. I think it may have been Cardiff. I believe it was the only one in the UK. Around £90k if I remember correctly.

There is one currently at the Museum in Stuttgart. Maybe a year or so ago there was one for sale on PH.

I remember that, it had green calipers and some 918 Spider Edition stickers on, and a few very minor spec tweaks & green its, and was just for buyers of the 918 spider. Says a lot about people buying a £1m car that there was an exclusive £100k car that only they were allowed to buy , to keep them amused whilst they waited!

possibly the most pointless of 911 special editions, and god knows there have been a few

judging the numbers you hear about, the potential clients agreed

Saw one identical to the black one, with the yellow / green highlights on the M1 northbound around Derby a couple of weeks ago.

I can also confirm the existence of these. A chap I know local to me with a 918 had a turbo.

It was a Turbo S (cab for this guy) named the Edition 918 Spyder, had a badge above the glovebox 'x/918' to match the 918 purchase, and was essentially just covered in carbon and some lime green badges.

I believe this to be the same car that came up at Cardiff, although it will have been higher than 90k for the 918 edition, as the chap I know pretty desperately wanted to buy it back once he had the 918 and a panamera delivered.

I have been told by an OPC that there was only 3 UK owners than ticked the "Yes" box for the 918 Turbo S.

You're right it was up for just shy of £100k. I'm not sure where I got £90k from!

Not sure I'd necessarily pay a big premium for one, however I do really like the carbon air intakes...

It would feel a bit odd to own one and not have the accompanying 918.

I had a look into these too. Not that its gospel but someone told me there was only 1 car registered in the UK from how many left. I remember before the 918 came out I saw a 918 edition Cab come up at a place like Nick Whale sold within a week at £140k. I think the 997 Turbo S is an awesome car anyway so a version of it with this sort of rarity be a nice thing to have.

the worst, most pointless special edition porsche has ever done. basically a car with stickers that say "I am rich"

Yes I can confirm his also, boss has had a 918 edition Turbo Cab. He now owns the '24 GE' plate 918 Spyder in South Wales. His OPC was Cardiff, so I would imagine it was his that was selling in Cardiff. He didn't keep the Turbo until his 918 delivery, he chopped it in for a 991 Carrera S cab.

not at all, I don't think this special edition will hold any weight for others in terms of future values either

hadn't thought of it like that, but it is a bit "my other car is a much more expensive hypercar"

zero appeal over a standard turbo S IMHO

What do the PHers think of the GT2 side vents this edition was sold with? Is the original twin blade design better or this single vent GT2 carbon fibre design better?

For comparison a pic of mine. Been thinking about upgrading my side vents but can't decide whether its too Halfords or not.
