Ditto. Do I become a beta tester then? wink

And is it free for a year then they charge £10 a month?

It's their way of saying they're sorry for Windows 8 and Vista.

I'll download it but I won't install it until the applications and games I play are known to be compatible.

Argrrh! I've only just got rid of it! I preferred Windows 8.

Is this Beta, or is the Windows 10 release soon?

It's not the Beta, you can get that now. It will be the full release, don't know when but when it's released it'll be available.

29th July full release for PC + tablet apparently.

Everything that works on 8.1 should work on 10, and in my experience with the Technical preview, that's the case.

Ditto. Gamma test. biggrin

Will it work on a mediocre machine or will I have to upgrade? Will it run on a machine that currently runs XP?

I'm on 7 and there's a little window icon on the bottom right. I expect, though, that Bill Gates just doesn't like you.

It might be a staged update.

My laptop hasn't got it but my desktop has. Bought the laptop year or two after the desktop so has a newer serial coded Win 7 install.

Will moving from Win7 to 10 work like an upgrade - ie will it (in theory, at least) leaving existing installed applications unmolested?

It is supposed to work on a phone with 512MB, so it should work on almost anything. That said, "drivers" as in "lack of" may stop play.

I have windows 7.
I don't see any reason to upgrade though? I have heard horrible things about 8. MY PC is a 5/6 year old laptop. I only really use it for browsing and playing Red Alrt2. biggrin

I guess what I am looking for is an argument for real advantages over my current OS. Which is functional enough.
I wanna reserve my copy, but it makes me feel like some child-mithered mother walking out of the supermarket and seeing the BOGOF impulse purchase near the till. biggrin

I am currently running a Compaq cq57, 1.6ghz dual core processor, 6gb RAM, was running Windows 7 but now on the Windows Beta for 10.
So far, it is running faster and all the programs launched so far from Windows 7 run seamlessly. I will try out Red Alert 3 momentarily.
EDIT: Yes it appears to run fine.
The only thing I have noticed is that my cpu is running a little hotter than normal, but well within tolerances so it is acceptable. That may be fixed with better drivers.

If you want to test the beta version yourself, read through all the jargon first, as it requires back ups of everything you want to keep (in case it has issues).

It does take a little while to upgrade to it, took me best part of four hours.
