Lots and lots of threads on here about this. Main thing is to buy on condition not mileage and don't let a high number of owners put you off if the car is mechanically sound.

What are you looking for? Vanilla GT3 or the Tutti Frutti RS? biggrin

crash damage
over revs
service history
Club Sport
over priced atm
Diff
Clutch
Rads
top mounts
Bushes
tyres
brakes
coilpacks
rear exhaust rot
PASM issue
toe links
Battery

A lot of 3rd party dealers won't touch them atm RSJ never have done anyway.
So 911v or JZM.
OPC seem rare also as too old/expensive to get back to OPC standard.

same list really on any car 8/10 years old, parts just seem to wear lower miles as they are driven harder.

Been looking at JZM, RPM & Cameron, I assume these dealers are pretty well known and respectable?

Would you know if the GT3 997 will lose much value or even indeed go up in value?

no one knows

I would say go down in value at current £85k values.

Have you driven one? I lusted after one for a few years then when the dream was realised it was such a disappointment, however I'm in a very very small minority thinking they are over rated, as for values, at current crazy levels more likely to see a drop than continue to climb imo...good luck

I'm near Maidstone, if you fancy looking around one and take a passenger ride without a salesman breathing down your neck you are welcome to pop round some time.

It's not for sale but i'm always happy to help out a fellow Petrolhead if i can.

This pretty much covers it. Don't forget on 997.2 Center Locks are a service item (if you track).

Well, you could do a lot worse than buying mine which is up on Pistonheads at the moment! I spent a long time looking for a low mileage car with comfort + carbon buckets and a Porsche warranty (to May 16) but I have a GT4 coming on July 20th and can't justify both. It's absolutely lovely.

What are you on about? You're suggesting some dealers won't touch them why exactly??

GT3's have to be the best used bet right now...why would a dealer NOT be interested?

Don't worry, Dave's got a bit of a GT3 fetish going on, hates them and can't help slagging them off.

Don't ruin another GT3 thread arguing, else we are going to end up discussing gear ratios and the excellent road car that is the Cayman R. ( I totally agree about the R though, great car and I'd love one, in fact Dave's one is the perfect spec)

My advise would be to look at as many as you can, I would imagine condition will vary quite a bit.

I also wouldn't touch one if the seller didn't allow it to have a full independent inspection from a approved third party.

Some of these cars are 7 plus years old and will need big money spending on them. To pay 70k plus and it need further money spending on it in anyway would be crazy in my opinion.

Good luck

Not said anything bad have I ?

I did say all those items will affect any car that age.

As for dealers not taking them on ask RSJ being one of the main Porsche 3rd party dealers ask them why no older Gt3 ever ?

Hi

I did send you an email with my phone number, but yes I'm around Sunday and the weathers good so a run out would be nice.

The engines and gearboxes are bullet proof. Usual checks really. Accident damage, general condition, maintanence etc. Club-sports tend to carry a higher premium. No logical reason as there's not much difference between a clubbie and comfort with Carbon buckets. If you go to JZM or another dealer who understands them - often they will have a motorsport background - you are probably improving the odds in your favour. . Ignore the twaddle about dealers not touching them. That way say more about the dealer than the car. They are a much better bet that a cooking 911 providing they have been well maintained and one of the closest experiences of a genuine road registered GT racing car that you will ever find.

Good luck

Coming from a 996GT3 they are amazing cars - on price I think the release of the Cayman GT4 may push second hand values down. The only draw back on the car was the ride height on the road. The front splitter on the 996 protected the front but I wish I had the ability to raise the front at times (petrol stations - car parks and speed humps). I would not dismiss a Cayman R or a GT4. The Cayman R is a brilliant car.

However if I was given the choice of a 997 GT3 MKII (with axle lift) or a Cayman R I would go with the GT3 MKII but that ignores price.

If they become more accessible to enthusiasts and more viable to track then amen to that. That's what these cars were built for. Although in 10 years time, I suspect that from a value point of view, the GT3 will be the car to have in your garage
