Apologies mate, I'll reel my neck in. Do you mind if I ask how long you've had the 996 and what you paid for it.
Eh? No apology or neck retraction required at all mate, see my garage beer

Yes that's right. It went on sale at 4.30pm Saturday and I bought it the following Tuesday morning ( they tell me they had 8 enquiries in that time), although I must admit it was more than the £40k a recent poster suggested should be the maximum to pay for one !

Also factor in it's a 2004 car with the X50 pack, so 450bhp (rather than the standard 420bhp). The X50 pack was a £7.4k extra when new so not many people will have ticked that option!

I was assuming that given the age, mileage and spec (plus the JZM factor) that it would have been high £40Ks.....

Cobalt has always been one of my fave colours and being Manual, would have thought £35k-£40k is a fair and realistic price for this car. Should prob put it up for £39995 and see the response/play it by ear....thumbup

Interested to see where this gets to.... I can't access the discussion on PCGB as I am not a member - based on the assumption that this is a 'sorted' car - I think that a dealer would offer him £40K all day long and then stick it up for at least £50K - Northway have a Turbo S Tiptronic up for £53K - lower mileage but still...

Private sale for this car IMHO - somewhere in the £40-45K range at present - the colour will boost the price, assuming it does not have a baby-puke brown interior!

£40k sounds low for a manual 2005 996 turbo S as it has the X50 package plus PCCB's. It's a late model in a fantastic colour. I'd expect it to be £50-55k.

I have to agree, £50k would be the minimum!

Turbo S, manual, with 30-50k on the clock are rare.

X50 cost £8,709 (you are looking at ex VAT price)

includes modified turbos, ECU, intercoolers, gearbox - not sure why people claim exhaust was different as Porsche don't

My memory is not what it was, however I seem to remember JZM asking £59,995 for that 996 turbo eek maybe sng45 who bought it can confirm?

Thanks for all the help and advice guys. My mate won't sell his 996 TT now it's come to the crunch (not for a price I'd be happy to pay anyway!) I've actually looked at two 996TT's and one 997TT all of which were decidedly ropey. This in itself has put me off a lot. I've previously owned a 996 Carrera and GT3 and they were like new compared to these cars I recently viewed. For this reason I'm now looking at Aston's as it's a car I've never owned and really fancy one now.

Cheers again smile

I had the 996 tweaked with filter/exhaust/pro remap/suspension/brakes and had around 500BHP/510LBS and the car was scary to drive, you really had to hang on giving mega amounts of attention/steering input. It actually wasn't any fun because the car felt quite ragged and absolutely on the limit.
Interesting comments above with regards to your personal experience of the handling.
I have a 996 turbo putting out 673hp and the car is rapid for sure, but scarry not. (except for nervous passengers smile). I am on the original suspension it came with (which was the sport option, slightly lowered and firmer, tuned springs and shock absorbers. I think it was called X73 option or something like that). The car handles amazingly and I never felt the need to change the suspension. Absolutely perfect for B roads.
Personally I get great pleasure driving the car extremely hard and would never say it felt ragged, I would guess that your old 996 may of needed wheel alignment/proper set up. All personal taste of course but I do find the 997 turbo a little numb to drive compared to the 996 and I have driven a few.

Yep X73 was the code for sports suspension, 20mm lower and stiffer springs, shocks and ARBs, cost £1400 - probably a nice option if you live somewhere rural with good roads, I find it too harsh in London

Not quite but pretty close !

I think that had they decided to ask that price, they would have got it ( although probably not from me !)

Sorry I wasn't asking what you paid, just what the ticket price was from JZM.
