As per the title really.

Can we have a forum for the discussion of historical events etc?

There's currently an interesting discussion on WW2 tanks in NP&E and there's also the thread on abandoned buildings in the lounge which gets bumped from time to time.

Hi Tango13

Interesting suggestion... I will put a request in to create such thread.

I have to confess this is the first I've heard of this, so clearly Ollie didn't take the request any further! (I can't moan at him either as he left 6 months ago!)

Anyway, in my opinion a history forum would get such a small amount of traffic and so few threads that the ones we moved to it would probably just dwindle and die. It is true that for any new forum category to succeed we need to really reach a tipping point where we have so many threads being started about the subject matter that GG / the lounge is becoming flooded - once this critical mass has been reached a stand alone forum is viable.

So to summarise... I don't think this is something we're ready for.

Apologies for the delay - whilst it is of little comfort Ollie must simply have forgotten to get back to you as creating a new forum only takes about 10 minutes!

I requested a new thread under Events for Brooklands a few months go. A reasonable request to separate out their events as getting more and more popular over there. I think it's in queue for review. It's a very simple, and not a time consuming task in the CMS.

Sorry, just to check do you mean a separate sub forum for Brooklands events?

I've just had a look and there seems to be a single thread about a recent event at Brooklands... there would be absolutely no benefit to create another specific sub forum for such a small number of threads (or thread!). What's more, it would probably mean that any topics that were started in there got almost no interaction / replies as no one would find them.

In other words, the main events forum is the place for the brooklands threads to live until we reach a point where that forum is full of threads about Brooklands.

I hope this makes sense, but any questions just ask!
