Best wheel colour on 997.2 GTS? VOTE
Discussion
Have a new (to me) set of Centre Lock wheels for my white GTS and as they are a multitude of colours (2 x platinum silver, 1 x Silver and 1 x guards red!) I need to decide what colour to get them refurbished in...
As you know the OE GTS wheel is black with an awful polished rim (!) and they do look well (bar the polished rim) on a white car. I also have a set of the OE wheels in silver with winter tyres fitted which also look good and some people say actually look better than the black set...
So my gut feeling is gloss black (had this finish on my previous wheels on a white 1M coupe) but also tempted by a dark silver (gun-metal) or anthracite....
What colour would you choose?
Gloss Black
Bright Silver
Dark Silver (gun-metal)
Anthracite
Whatever colour I decide on the new wheels are going to look stunning with a far better offset to fill the arches (especially on the rear) and wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's
Help me on the colour choice...

Dislike black wheels as you lose the detail of the wheel design, and without a silver rim, the wheel and tyre just merge into one. I had my 996T wheels changed from the standard bright silver to GT silver which is nicely a couple of shades darker, and as used on the 996T S. For me it would be this or platinum.
Decision now down to either gloss black (in-keeping with the OE GTS theme) or a metallic grey/anthracite similar to BMW ferric grey...
No matter what colour the wheels are going to look superb!
Not the original SPYDER design GTS wheels but a combination of 997.2 GT3 Fronts and 997.2 GT3 RS Rears...

Nice work sourcing the wheels! No matter what colour the wheels are going to look superb!

I hate black wheels (my car has them but if I had been able to get a date that suited Exel wheels and me, they would already be silver). I would go for the standard finish of 997.2 GT3 wheels, which i think look superb. Is it platinum?
It would be shame to lose the lovely wheel design in the black, plus the gloss black will turn to matt with the brake dust anyway!

The fronts are the original GT3 platinum silver which is very nice but I would like to go a shade or two darker...
I think the platinum silver looks great. Are the GT3 wheels slightly wider than the GTS standard (9x19 as opposed to 8.5x19)? Have you checked the clearance, especially with the lowered ride?

Spent a lot of time checking offsets and wheel sizes etc.Are the GT3 wheels slightly wider than the GTS standard (9x19 as opposed to 8.5x19)? Have you checked the clearance, especially with the lowered ride?
The fronts are from a 997.2 GT3 which uses an identical size to the GTS (8.5x19) but a slightly more aggressive offset (just 3mm). There are lots of 9x19 wheels available which were standard on the 997.2 GT2 & GT3 RS but the extra width and more aggressive offset would stick out too far and require the fitment of the RS front arch lips which I didn't want to do. And the associated stones being flicked up to the rear arches!
The rears are from a 997.2 GT2 / GT3 RS and are 1" wider (12") than the GTS (11") with a better offset which will put the wheel a further 15mm out into the arch. The rear GTS wheels sit way too far in for my liking looking lost in the arches. These will fit perfectly being from a wide body GT3 RS.
Very excited about seeing the final article once complete.

Either of the bottom two.I dislike black wheels also, with two caveats.
1) Unless you're OCD about keeping them shiny. The minute they are not, especially on a white car they look poverty spec and any nice detail is lost - looks cheap IMO.
2) the black wheels in question have a lot of surface area, ie not thin spindly spokes, the more wheel there is the more chance of surface shine there is (see point 1)
Ironicaly I have a black Brera S...with very dark anthracite wheels. These do not conform very well with point 2 above.
Luckily I conform to point 1.
There are bound to be exceptions but any matt or satin black wheel is hideous.....off the top of my head the only ones that work have a large, heavily dished, rim that is polished (70-80's Fuchs)

That's really interesting. As mentioned above I'm looking at changing wheels and lowering my GTS and have been looking at the options. I agree the wheels are a little lost in the arches and spacers are not the best option with CL wheels.
Look forward to see how the wheels look once fitted!
Do you have any other mods planned?
