996 C4S - how good are they?

The Carerra 2 looks much nicer to my eyes. I also prefer the way it drives but admittedly I've had limited time in both cars and the C4S was a tip tronic.
Out of interest what was the auto like and does it really sap the performance?I'm actually looking at the auto version do to the time stuck in traffic and lack of chance to give it stick.

I wouldn't say the tiptronic was a bad gearbox to use, I just prefer manuals. Overall the car did feel a bit slower but then I didn't get a chance to really open it up. On corners it felt planted but heavier, less nimble. Maybe due to having more grip? Both cars were fantastic, I just felt a bit more alive and more rewarded in the C2.I'm actually looking at the auto version do to the time stuck in traffic and lack of chance to give it stick.
It sounds like you'd be better off with an auto to be honest.

Here in Western Australia there is very strict and policed roads so getting above 70mph is near impossible/fear inducing to do so it makes sense to have a cruiser.
I also sit in rush hour traffic am and pm and using a manual horrifies me no matter the 10% of time it would be nice to have.
The C4S seems to be a potential depreciation proof future classic compared to other affordable modern-ish Porsches.
As shallow as it is I'm really looking for a car that the ownership joy is in the sense of what it is rather than the pure last 10% of what it can do.
Sad but true.
The C4S just (to me) has that 'soul' other 996's seem to be lacking.

I find it crap... definitely wouldn't recommend one as a weekend car.I'm actually looking at the auto version do to the time stuck in traffic and lack of chance to give it stick.
However it is nice having an auto when driving in traffic and I'll use it for most of my journeys into central London as my other cars are manuals.

Stunning motor car the 4S.The beauty of the 911 is regardless of our choice of flavour, if the truth be told we`d take any one as they`re all, in a way, good.
Sometimes you`ll hear things on here by claimed Porsche `enthusiasts` flaming one model or another and it makes me wonder if they`re just trolling. I`ve heard turbos being called `boring` and characterless, C2s being `tame` and poverty spec, C4S`s being `all show` or not for purists. It`s just hair splitting nonsense. I kinda have a fondness for them all.

I can always tell it's a 911 coming down the road and it always puts a smile on my face whether it's a turbo, C2, GT3 or C4S.
All night and day better to drive than a dull eurobox!

It's one of those cars that no matter what the spec/model, you never think any less of the car for not being the "top of the range" model. I can always tell it's a 911 coming down the road and it always puts a smile on my face whether it's a turbo, C2, GT3 or C4S.

To drive I don't think they are really any different to a narrow body C4.
However some people prefer the way they look, and they made fewer of them, so they do seem to be the best bet if you are fussed about depreciation.
Having said that, when you can buy a very nice 996 NB for £10k, you might say all 996s are depreciation proof.
