Hi lads,

I'm working my way towards a 997.1 GT3 (hopefully) and have a few questions.

- Were there any changes to the Mk1 GT3 in the three years it was made? 2006, 2007 and 2008? Even if it was minor things like Bluetooth phone etc…

- What does the clock on the dash do? I want to avoid one with the dash clock as I think it ruins the dash unless it serves some fancy purpose.

- Do the carbon backed bucket seats have a tilt lever to access the back of the car or do they not hinge?

- I've read you can retro-fit back seats to the 997.1 GT3 with out too much hassle, has anyone in the U.K done this?

- A couple of the cars I'm interested in have around 45,000 miles on the clock, what intervals are the major (expensive) services due around this period.

- Apart from Clubsport, what are the so called desirable options?

- I'm aiming for a car with Carbon Bucket seats, no clock on the dash in Black or White. I'd be looking at a few track days throughout the year and also a little bit of touring with the family when I manage to retrofit seats in the back. What options would be good for me in that sense, I guess ignoring the clubsport option, Carbon brakes and the clock on the dash, I'd like to aim to get as many of the track focused options as possible.

- Does the stereo have Aux input or USB or even better bluetooth audio?

- Does the car have bluetooth phone connectivity at all throughout the 3 years of production?

I like the look of these two cars, mainly because of the colour and also the fact they have carbon bucket seats and no clock on the dash

2006 White from 911 Virgin

2007 Black from Cameron Sports Cars

I'm sure there's a few questions I've forgotten….

Cheers.

Carbon buckets are fixed. Clock is sports chrono pack, advise a google on this.

A GT3 is an excuse to NOT take the family and do boys track days in Spa instead!!

Thanks Dan, don't worry family won't be coming to Spa or they'll be getting dropped off at friends along the way!

Mrs is adamant that whatever I buy needs to have 4 seats so I'm trying to sell here the retro-fit seats into a 997 GT3 option!

Yes, that's all well and good but the GT3 has all that other fruit as standard does it not? So the clock is just a dash ornament….

You'll probably be looking for a 997.1 GT3 with Comfort Seats if you want to access the back of a GT3. The buckets are fixed so limit access and you wouldn't want a cage.

The tilting buckets came in the 997.2 GT3.

Plenty of threads just on Pistonheads 997 GT3 Rear Seats

>> No pretty sure nothing significant.

- What does the clock on the dash do? I want to avoid one with the dash clock as I think it ruins the dash unless it serves some fancy purpose.

>> Nothing on a GT3 apart from allow you to time yourself.

- Do the carbon backed bucket seats have a tilt lever to access the back of the car or do they not hinge?

>> The carbon buckets on a gen1 are FIXED back. The Sports or Adaptive seats I think do allow tilt.

- I've read you can retro-fit back seats to the 997.1 GT3 with out too much hassle, has anyone in the U.K done this?

>> Not easily I don't think (and certainly not legally)

- A couple of the cars I'm interested in have around 45,000 miles on the clock, what intervals are the major (expensive) services due around this period.

>> Although Porsche allowed 2 year service intervals as per Carreras, most owners agree that you should be revising these cars every year (incl oil change), esp if you are tracking it, or equally putting in very low mileage.

- Apart from Clubsport, what are the so called desirable options?

>> Clubsport configuration with rollcage etc tends to achieve better prices, and worth having if you are defo going to track. Buckets if you can fit in them (v tight at the hip for the slightly big boned!), PCCBs (reduction in unsparing mass at the wheels, fade resistant braking - but many prefer steels from a replacement cost perspective, tho you can now have pccb's refurbished quite economically). Sound Package Plus worth having imp as otherwise the CD-R stereo is very basic. Wouldn't get hung up on PCM as it hasn't aged too well and nav is fairly cr4p. Warranty might be worth having if depending on your attitude towards risk. The engines on these are far more dependable as you're probably aware, and if looked after correctly will give good problem free service. they are coming towards 10 yrs of age now so even if you get an OPC car with a warranty it will on be for a year or two. Personally I'd pass on a warranty and put some money aside every year for rainy day maintenance.

- I'm aiming for a car with Carbon Bucket seats, no clock on the dash in Black or White. - Does the stereo have Aux input or USB or even better bluetooth audio?

>> If you've got PCM I think you can benefit from the above connectivity. If not get yourself sth like a Parott Bluetooth system which works quite well.

- Does the car have bluetooth phone connectivity at all throughout the 3 years of production?

I like the look of these two cars, mainly because of the colour and also the fact they have carbon bucket seats and no clock on the dash

2006 White from 911 Virgin

>> Good buying experiences from these guys documented by other PH members I think.

2007 Black from Cameron Sports Cars

I'm sure there's a few questions I've forgotten….

Cheers.

>> Best of luck!

911virgin are a great outfit and will keep smiling no matter what the preparation costs of the car you buy from them and of course the car will carry the mantle of being 911virgin supplied.I would highly recommend them.

Thanks for the help so far chaps.
Shame about the buckets not hinging in my case.
Perhaps I can get a car with buckets and a spare set of sports seats for family excursions.
Safe to say the rails and mounting points are identical

I have had a full rear seat conversion completed on my 997.1, it is not that difficult to do and I didn't have any issues with insurance ( I checked with several Insurers before going ahead with the conversion). As others have mentioned, you either need the Sports or Adaptive Sports seats as they tilt allowing access to the back or, buckets from the 997.2 which tilt.

The black car at Cameron looks excellent - I saw it when I was there last week. Can't remember which seats it has. Porsche Swindon may still have a 991.1 Comfort- £5k more, however it only has 9k miles on it and of course would come with a Porsche warranty.

Thanks for that.
I assume bolt holes for the seat, seat belts etc are the same on the 997.1 and 997.2 GT3s?
Are the 997.2 GT3 buckets two piece then to allow for the tilt or does the whole seat tilt somehow?

On the 997.2 the seat back only tilts forward
Be aware on the GT3 997.1 there is NO bluetooth.
The telephone module means you can fit a sim card to the PCM to enable calls in and out. Different number from your mobile unfortunately. To be honest the PCM on the mk 1 is pretty poor at best.

Great car though, I miss mine
