Had a few incidents to be honest, generally and definitely envy based. However, these are offset by all the positive comments which can come from anywhere....latest from the temporary postman!

Chav tts who attempt to race or tailgate get the standard treatment, slow down and accelerate hard or leave the idiot like a small blip in the mirror! They soon back off or are never to be seen again...

I think the irony as someone mentioned is that the cost of them (996's anyway) is probably less than some of the cars the other 'jealous' people are driving rolleyes
Yes but 996s are not available on lease. laugh

I've had my 997.2 C4S now a few weeks and admittedly it's been more good than bad. To be honest at home or in my local area as opposed to where I bought it, it's been all good.

Someone said it's maybe related to the area you're in. Maybe some truth in that.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the response to mine! I was expecting plenty of coffee been shaking but I've actually had quite a few friendly waves, and lots of grins from kids in the back of cars - reminds me when I used to love looking at cars as a kid myself. The only reaction that seems in any way negative seems to come from 3 litre derv drivers who seem to want to show me how fast their cars are! By contrast I had plenty of agro when I used to drive the 355 around teh place,

My SC generally gets positive comments and thumbs up. Mostly the same with the other classic 911s I've owned in the past too. You get the odd wker gesture, but they're easily laughed off.

I did, however, have a Nissan pickup truck literally 18" from my back bumper the other evening. I was in a queue of traffic doing 50mph on an unlit country lane. There were no overtaking opportunities so we were stuck in a cavalcade of cars following a 50mph driver. The Nissan truck was that close that I couldn't see his headlights through my rear glass, only in my mirrors. It looked like he was about to ride up and over the engine lid. He made no attempt to overtake and I hadn't seen it before he drove up behind so I can't see how I provoked him. He probably just wanted to feel like the big man with tattoos he no doubt was.

In three years 997.2 ownership, I've had very little aggro and almost none that could be attributed to owning a Porsche (ie normal idiocy applying). The one that really stands out though was on the A84 outside Buchany: there's a nice long straight there, where I did a by-the-book (I'm one of those tedious IAM types) overtake on a Renault Scenic occupied by a flat cap-wearing bloke in his late sixties and (presumably) his wife. Overtake done, dropped back in, with plenty of space available. Next thing I see, approaching the blind right-hander at the end of the straight, is the Scenic right alongside me, completely offside on the entry to the bend, Mr flat cap gibbering and screaming. He finally dropped back, it being just blind luck that no poor bugger was coming the other way, and spent the next five miles swerving and flashing behind me.

I do get the occasional chav yoof trying to race and big pickups do seem to want to tailgate a lot, but I definitely get more hassle from the Saxo brigade when I'm in my remapped X5 40D - the fact that they've just been left for dead by a 4x4 bourgemobile really seems to get amongst them…

1 year in a 996 turbo and I guess 8+ now in the 996 GT2 and pretty much nothing at all. 30k miles only but really no sort of hassle at all.

But then I think I tend to mind my own business and drive it like I enjoy it for being fast and agile. Some folks prefer to swan about looking cool instead and perhaps that triggers a reaction?

I don't know. But then to be fair most people I encounter are behind me soon enough and I don't look at them so I might be driving about in a continuous mexican wave of wker signs haha

To be fair this sort of demonstration of your superiority complex is going to bring unwanted attention.

I had a first stab at Porsche ownership. Had a GT3 for 2 years (LOVED IT) but couldn't believe the amount of 'coffee bean' type incidents. Was almost laughable, I was even warned of it prior to purchase by a Porsche nut friend of mine who amusingly happened to be in the car for my first Kenco moment! Lol...

Now sold the Porsche (not for this reason) and gone back to Ferrari ownership. The Scud gets nothing but a thumbs up. smile
That's strange - I would have thought a fezza would attract more of those type of reactions.

Slip road to M4 elevated section heading West from A4 Brentford.
Legitimate 2 lanes into 1.
Been doing it same time same place on my morning commute in an RS6 Avant for a number of years.
Always careful to take it in turns, driving courteously following the "let one in before I go" rule of merging.
No problems ever.

First fortnight of 997 Turbo ownership driving in the same manner I was twice jockeyed for position by
Middle Aged men in rep mobiles seemingly furious with me and refusing to give way despite me giving way politely to the car in front of them.

It's cool. I understand their feeling of bitterness and I just join the elevated section at Chiswick now to avoid anyone spoiling my fantastic commute.

Same here actually. I've had 4 in total, 3 red and (current) 1 black. The red did get some but nothing compared to the Porsche... Black Fezza has been all good...

Agreed. I got my first Porsche when I was 27, it was a 2.7 Boxster but I drove around in it like I was the dog's knees. In hindsight I cringe at the way I drove it, I was a liability on the road and often got negative attention which was most likely because I was looking for/asking for it.

10 years later and I've had my 997 GT2 for 4 years now, I don't remember the last negative incident on the road but then I drive completely differently now. I'll press on but only when there's no traffic, I avoid city centres and high streets and listen to the radio when in traffic jams and queues, I don't mind arriving 32 seconds later for the sake of letting a few cars through if they're in a rush.

So in my experience I've had a fair bit of rage aimed at me but I think the car was only a small part of it.

I got cut up quite badly in my Macan by a guy in a van last week and I've no idea what his problem was even though he got out and walked towards me at traffic lights to tell me. Fortunately the lights changed and I drove around him (as did others) and didn't see him again.

The wife who was with me at the time and usually has no problem pointing out my driving errors was also baffled as to what misdemeanour he suffered to cause such an outburst and we both concluded that he was either mad, stupid, frustrated or had a serious case of green eyed monster.

I have reached an age where I can honestly say that others view of my car (especially strangers) is of nil interest to me. It just doesnt even register.

The last guy that gave me the coffee bean shake (cant remember why), i blew him a big kiss and he was steaming! Red faced and shouting inside his car!

I laughed for about an hour!
This, x100. Develop a thicker skin, otherwise the lowest common denominator wins, and that just isn't acceptable. It's happened to me a few times over the years but now I just laugh- it really does annoy the protagonists. The very best they'll get from me is pity. And maybe the next time they'll think twice about venting their frustrations on a complete stranger; you can be damn sure you're not the first to be on the receiving end.

I assume you drive a saxo!

Alternatively, if you choose to drive your 350bhp+ sports car around like a fanny then that's up to you!

Having said what I said earlier, I`d like to add something. maybe a 911 in your rear view mirror incites a reaction.

On the A8 yesterday en route to Larne I was held up by a plonker in an MR2 in the right hand land that refused point blank to move over.
I ended up having to drive on the left lane while he `had his race` kicking the life out of his car . I was only trying to make progress to catch my ferry.

Thanks for your replies, generally we have had a great experience with our two Porsche cars - only marred by two strange incidents

One accident where our car was rammed in the side (turns out was an insurance fraud and being investigated) and the second a un-provoked road rage incident when my wife was going to work one morning

Most times (as others have said) our cars provoke nothing more than a smile or a cheery wave
