Then itch it! smile

I see you conundrum though, as the 911 Turbo is a fairly unique package. Ferrari California would be awesome but I guess outside the budget.

Howabout a BMW 850? cool
i had a loved a 540i and dont fancy another bmw of that era for a while (huge repair bills!)

Im tempted by a gen 2 997 now...

Hello folks,
one for the 996tt owners here - and particularly those that urged me to keep it (that to all for the advice on this thread - it was great!)
!UPDATE!
I drove every car that was recommended. All were great (1st world problem to say the least here, luck me). But..
M3 and RS4 - awesome noises! couldn't handle the reduction in driveway specialness tho
Granturismo - too slow and depreciating
CSL - too expensive, so drove a CS - wonderful thing (quite liked the smgs THWAK) but couldn't handle the reduction in driveway specialness
997.1 x51 - lovely drive and wonderful noise - but cant be arsed with engine issues
AM v8 - lovely but i need seats for the kids
964 - wonderful wonderful drive but couldn't handle the rust risk
997.2 - a contender.....

So, I put the tt on the market with the plan to get a 997.2.
I took a deposit very quickly (a sale without being seen trade buyer), and had a ton of interest.
But then, when confronted with the reality of handing over the keys, I COULDNT DO IT.
Yes, it turns out I am incredibly attached to the tt and none of the options, or strong sale price were strong enough to pull me through the decision.
I am now, once again, a very happy and satisfied tt owner, and have resigned myself to the fact that I'm keeping it forever.
What a special car these are.

thanks for all the input on this thread!
enjoy your steeds!

I should have mentioned that only the 4.2 base model with the ZF auto was in my range - looking at the Harry Metcalfe video of his MC shift suggested that the gear change noise and punch of the larger engine and MC shift was much much more fun than the base one.
If they continue to fall in value it was certainly a contender - amazing noise and just jaw dropping to look at.

You mentioned looking at Granturismo's and experiences. I went 997.1TT coupe to 997.1TT cab which I ran alongside a 4.7 Granturismo S MC Shift. Had the Mas for 2.5 years but swapped the TTCab for a 997 GTS which was alongside the Mas for 2 of the 2.5 years I had the Mas.

If you need 4 comfortable for adult seats, a guaranteed feeling of an event every time you turn the key and the ability to have a big grin on your face from any speed from 10mph to 150mph, the granturismo is hard to beat. Mine was almost 100 percent reliable, had no scary big bills and was a joy to own. It's not dynamically any where near any 911, but there is fun to be had by hustling a big GT car along and it holds its own imho as long as you take it for what it is.

Hi folks,

I finally took action and sold the 996tt - the offers were too tempting and I had a great three year run with nothing major going wrong. I also found myself using it less and less on long family runs to Devon and Chester as the kids are a bit bigger.

After quite a test drive quest I bought an immaculate e90 m3 with the m performance exhaust (and have a very pleasing stack of cash for when I change again).

Thanks a lot for the help on this thread. Now I own the m3 I can report:
- it am very pleased (and not yet suicidaly regretful!)
- it's every bit as exciting as the turbo to drive
- it is lairy! Cold morning drives require a lot caution and care even with traction control on
- the noise is spectacular at all speeds and rpm
- it's a lot more fun to drive at any speed

• as expected it is massively less pleasing to look at on my drive : (
• the steering is nice and fast - but nowhere near as good as the Tt
• it's new and shiney, but has made me appreciate just how well made the Tt was. My Tt was 16 years old and it really didn't show it
• the too-planted 4wd was one of the reasons I fancied a change - but that only applies in summer! Slimey winter roads are where the turbo was simply amazing - fun, awesome, and majestic. I should have sold in the summer!

Anyway - I'll be back in a 911 sometime I'm sure - be it a 997.1tt or a 991.
But for now I'm pleased (and TBH relieved) I made a decision and am enjoying the change.
No regrets!

( yet )
