Its a very long time since I drove a 996, I thought it too quiet and normal. I was a hater.
But, I would love to try one again, I think maybe as times have changed and cars have become more detached that maybe theres a different perspective now?
They definitely look better, I might even say, timeless?
Molly, buy one before they take off, would be a great daily to compliment your 993!But, I would love to try one again, I think maybe as times have changed and cars have become more detached that maybe theres a different perspective now?

Mines just had it's yearly big service and as a special treat it had it's wheels refurbed too.
I do 30 - 40K miles a year in it and it is still going strong after years of what many would consider abuse. Quite simply there is nothing out there which is comparible on price/performance/space/ability grounds to a good 996.

Here's mine. I've owned the car for just over three months. I've driven over 5000 miles in that time, and enjoyed every mile. What a machine! I'm just a little annoyed with myself for leaving it so long before trying one. I wish I'd bought one years ago.
I think the 996 is starting to age really well, and a true bargain performance motor.

The 'draw' of the 996 just keeps on niggling away at me, I've read numerous times that 911s are 'ubiquitous' and just too common, but when I see one in the flesh it still turns my head and gives me a nice buzz, it's great to see them being used. Typically, I'd not seen any for a while but saw a pair this morning on the way home from work within a few minutes of each other, a 996 and a 997 in Kidlington, neither of which were in the more usual colours, the 996 was bright red and the 997 was a sort of metallic pearl grey with Martini graphics along the bottom of the doors.
Sod it - I'm going to go and look at some after work tomorrow!

Some nice pics there guys! I bought my Zenith Blue 3.4 C2 with aero cup in July this year, and I LOVE IT! Manual, rear wheel drive, hardback sports seats, cable throttle, no PSM, LSD they are awesome value for money - at the moment!
Got some sport design gt3 split rims in the garage waiting to be refurbed to complete the look when I get time!

In time the 996 may well become one of the most sought after 911's as it has modern underpinnings that are easily upgraded with bolt on after market components to create the tuned analogue experience. Effectively making it a blank canvas from a tuning perspective. Creating an analogue experience with later cars Much less viable. The 997 has pasm abd to potentially overcome and the 991 is more difficult still.
I think that reason, the 911's that offer a modern platform which enable the most modern bolt on tuning options are the 964, 993 and 996. For the tuner looking for contemporary analogue performance upgrade, with a nice retro look these are the 911's to seek for a perfect blank canvass. Buy now before it is too late
