991 GT3 - Gen 2

I'm curious - (not referring to the responses above but other threads) why do people think that there won't be a Gen2 GT3?
Mostly due to following all of the contradictory stories that have come out over the last couple of years (from official sources and elsewhere). There is a subtext from those that the 991.2 GT3 may actually be a GT2 : i.e. turbocharged, which is consistent with where the rest of the Porsche range is heading. The absence of a 991.1 GT2 has reinforced this perception (though it is possible to simply attribute that to the resources that would have developed it being employed in fixing the GT3 issues which so delayed the release of the RS).At some point there will be a last ever normally aspirated 911. Will that be now (or at least soon)? We will have to wait and see I guess....
Whilst A Preuninger is viewed as essentially a marketing man by some, there is unquestionably nevertheless some truth in his recent statement confirming GT Porsches will not go down the 'turbine' route of 'lesser' models and remain normally aspirated for the forseeable future.........

Quite possibly and looking at the deemed 'advances' compared to the well known issues with older turbo engines Ferrari have made with the 488 engine over the 458 na which could be seen similar to the improvements with each generation of electric steering btw, it may be the next gen after the assumed late 2017 991.2 GT3 which is 'turbine' powered. Perish the thought.anonymous said:

Perhaps, but as the Porsche 'brand' seems, despite recent revelations, to be fairly well insulated against the sort of ill-will now being heaped on VW, and given that Mueller more than anyone is likely to understand the value added the rest of the range by having the GT cars, overhauling the 911 range still seems quite distant. And that's without mentioning the fact that Porsche themselves will not see a relatively small number of 911 sales as being fundamental to maintaining the CO2 average across the VAG range. And GT customers surely don't give a t*ss about CO2 figures.Slickhillsy said:
Well... Whenever it does arrive I think the colour choice is a no brainer!!!
Such a stunning looking think in this colour, personally I think would also suit the non RS car and would make a welcome change from all the white, black and grey GT3's out there.
But definitely no Gen 2....
Somewhere in the deep, dark corridors of the Porsche finance dept there's a spreadsheet with a forecast on it. One of the rows says GT3 sales 2016, it will most likely have a number in there that is at least equivalent to previous years. To fill that hole they will need a product....you may think in the scheme of things, that is, the gargantuan VAG that it doesn't matter but someone , somewhere will be getting paid on what that little row means to their business. Hence some sort of gen 2 gt3 will appear i think.

Unless a GT2 appears... Also, that number is only a couple of thousand cars and there is reputedly something new and mid engined in the works which will form the basis of the 2017 LM-GTE entry and which will both add sales and eat up the engineering resources of the motorsport development department over the next couple of years. There may be a 991.2 GT3, but I really don't think that there is anything that supports a contention that it is in any way nailed on. As always with idle speculation though - we will all have to wait and see.....Everyone is talking like it's going to be a gazillion hours of development time and an army of Tefal men slaving away for eons to deliver a car of the purest unobtanium.
New lights plus front and rear bumpers and a few new bits in the interior plus a couple of suspension tweaks (that they already had available but held them back anyway for the gen2). Squeeze out a (claimed) extra 10 BHP and we are good to go surely? That's what they did for the 996 and 997. How hard can it be?

If you believe some of the well informed German mags then there will be an option on the 1.2 GT3 to get it not only with manual but also with the underbody aero of the R without big wing, i.e. an R-light. If this happens (plus a single-mass flywheel) then that's what I'd go for
I haven't heard of this rumor but it has Porsche's handwriting all over it. No development costs and I'm sure they would charge extra for leaving the spoilers on the shelf. paul0843 said:
I hear that 991 gt3 gen 2 allocations have been circulated.
Anyone on here been promised one?
Paul
Definitely not the case. I got an R, GT3, RS and GT4 off my dealer. We haven't even discussed the GT3 so don't give up hope. When I ask them about these things they don't know anything about numbers and as for what will be coming, well I normally am better informed! Anyone on here been promised one?
