Hi chaps,

Just wondering whether anybody has been to the MotoGP at Mugello - and can comment on the best grandstands? Poggio Secco has been suggested and it looks good with bags of atmosphere and a big screen. My only concern is the length of time you actually see the motorcycles and whether there's much chance of overtaking.

We'll have a good wander around on Saturday anyway (I always do a full perimeter walk of every circuit I visit as a matter of course) but it's nice to have a seat for Sunday so any advice from those who've been would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Chev.

Oh and here's a shot I took of Rossi at Phillip Island in 2013 by means of a 'thank you'.

Me, Mitzy and Andy XRV did Poggia Secco a couple of years ago

There was no lack of atmosphere, the view was good as you can see most of turn 2 through to 7, complete with a screen in front of you.

As for overtaking, there was plenty at that point in the Moto3, but few in the MotoGP

Certainly one to tick off the list though

This ,exactly , viewed there with the Mrs.in 2014 , great viewing and right next to "Rossi Hill" beside to the right, fantastic atmosphere both days I was in. I decided there and then to ride it , not done so yet but if not this year, certainly next.....Do it for sure - beautiful place !

Turns 6/7/8/9 are the best corners on the track so aim for there.

Thanks so much for the awesome responses, guys! Really kind of you to take the time to share your experiences. I think we're pretty much sold on Poggio Secco then - sounds great. I'm so excited about finally visiting Mugello. Actually it was Mrs Chev's suggestion for our summer holiday this year so we're combining with a little road trip.

I've not been for the GP but when I was there in August I sat in the central grandstand opposite the pit garages for a bit, and that gave a great view. When I go to watch MotoGP I'll be sitting up there! It gave a great view of the 2nd to last hairpin, plus the little chicane bit. Plus the noise was great because you're right next to the long straight too.

As the others have said, Poogia Secco is a fantastic grandstand and the atmosphere next to the Rossi camp must be experienced at least once in your life. However, it'not very good for taking photographs. In 2014 I tried the Ducati grandstand which is on turn 13. This is much better as you can get closer to the circuit. I was lucky enough to be there when Lorenzo went under Marquez twice around this part of the circuit. Has a big screen too

Mind me asking where you're staying accommodation wise? I wanted to get to Mugello this year but could only get hotels in Florence.

Hi Dave, sorry for the tardy response! We doing a hotels / transfers / tickets package with Grandstand Motorsports. Probably not the cheapest way to go but totally hassle-free. We're going to stay in Florence as Mrs Chev has never been and we fancied somewhere with options for night-time entertainment.

Ah ok, i was looking at booking it all myself. Closest accommodation we could get was in Florence and i didn't fancy having to drive 1hr or so to the track everyday.

I've ended up booking San Marino instead.

Arrabbiata 2. You can see about half the track from here although it is horrendously expensive and completely uncovered and that italian sun gets VERY hot!

You can see from halfway between 5 & 6 all the way round to just before 10 before they come back into view after 14 and then head off down the main straight and there's a big screen directly in front too.

Poor image but should give an idea:

Plus we paid almost £30 for a couple of sandwiches and a couple of drinks from the only snack bar within about 300 miles of the grandstand. Although it is almost directly behind it.

I went last year as a road trip, EPIC is the only way to describe it. We watched from 'San Lorenzo' [?] and could see most of the track from there, perfect view of Rossi hill and it has two screens. Go early, getting in can take some time.

Booked our ferries yesterday! Next step is the MotoGP tickets. Then we can piece together the rest of the trip.

Thanks for all the great advice, awesome photos and great encouragement.

I've got a ticket on the way, fingers crossed, for Poggio Secco too.

I was going to the Mille Miglia anyway and realised the Moto GP was also on,so a no brainer to go to this too.

Been to Misano in 2008 and 10.
