Alternatives To The 991 Turbo S??
Discussion
All of this high end machinery is a bit unsuitable for track use, in my opinion.
You don't want to be lugging round hundreds of kilos of heated seats, aircon and the like. The cost of brakes and tyres and wear on a track will be very high on a £150k car, that is not a track special at least.
Get the road car you want an look at part ownership in a track car? Rent something? Buy a Caterham as well?

It might be worth taking your kid/s for a long run in a demo 911 to see how they handle being in the back. My little boy (5yo) has never been car sick before. However 70 mins into a 100 mins drive out in a 911 he started complaining that his stomach hurt. We thought he was hungry so gave him a banana that he couldn't finish. Arrived at our destination and no sooner had he got out of the car than he was sick. Evidently his stomach ache was motion sickness. I think it's because visibility from the back seats is particularly poor.
He hasn't had that issue in the back of our Maserati GTS despite covering much longer distances in it. It's one of things stopping me getting a Turbo, I need the kids to be happy in the back doing Eurpean trips in it.

Hi
Have had a Turbo S for coming up two years. Don't think there's anything to touch the combination of genuine every day usability with absolutely ballistic pace when you feel like it. Regularly achieve 26might, so range is quite sensible - then select sport plus and everything goes utterly mental. Had a 991 GT3 for a while which is a great car, but my other half just didn't like driving it. She Loves the turbo S! So I don't know if that would be a factor but it certainly makes me feel like I am not being so self indulgent!

..Flynn of old gtroc? (Edit: appears so after a quick lancerregister check - nice colour Huracan) If so you've already been through a few alternatives haven't you.
I have had a few now. Was very close to a Turbo S this week, but just done a deal on a 458. Pick it up next week all being well. Edited by OldBob on Thursday 4th February 14:28
I'll guess the next one will be a Turbo S, but would also like to have had an F12 for a while

Thanks again for everyones opinions & input.
I'll have a closer look at FF's & have started dialogue with McLaren around the 570S (hadn't considered either).
Although a 911 Turbo has been my biggest automotive want since being a young child, this will be a big purchase & as such I don't want to enter this all starry eyed & end up missing a better suited car &/or higher than average financial risk.
I'll be having extended Test Drives in the Turbo & Turbo S next month (dealer's not registering their Gen II's until March 1st).

That's pretty compelling. Going to take a look at the 570S though as no denying it's a bit of a looker, but i think all told & as per the above video, the Turbo S is on paper the only one to offer the complete package i'm after. What about the Tesla P90D? Anyone any experience of these?
Although it is far from being a Turbo S, performance wise with the 'Ludicrous Speed Upgrade' it appears on a par with the Turbo S & the running costs would be significantly lower.
I spec'd one up yesterday & with all the boxes ticked it came out at around £112k, however with the subsidy from Tesla etc. the PCP costs were around 60% less than the Porsche & the range is now around 320 miles which is more than far enough for my travel requirements. Without the 'Ludicrous' upgrade which itself is around £8k, the PCP costs are fairly impressive.

Well it's clearly not in the same arena as the Porsche or Ferrari/Maserati etc, but a worthy idea that I think you should explore...a quite unique prospect, that I think looks handsome too...bordering on bland but just doing enough to be stylish...the only other negative as written about is the how the giant iPad has just been thrown at the dashboard...

Truly terrible idea lol. Its as heavy as a battleship and watching it go round corners at Brunters was hilarious. Although it is far from being a Turbo S, performance wise with the 'Ludicrous Speed Upgrade' it appears on a par with the Turbo S & the running costs would be significantly lower.

These were Teslas own cars they bought along to VMAX as PR to show how quick they are. They really were not all that quick in a straight line either.
991 turbo S was sooooo much nicer

That was my thinking & coupled with the virtually Zero running costs it would certainly tick most of my boxes with a couple of ticks in boxes i'd never considered.I do quite like the styling, but agree it's hardly ground breaking. Looking above though, it may be a bit of a farce on track & always the problem of where would i charge the car up at Spa or the like. Having a closer look at the 570S next weekend as this appears to be a car worthy of consideration, however the lack of rear seats 'could' become an issue & it's certainly a more in your face Sports car than the 911.

hmm in those 3 cars you've crystalized your 'problem'
your spacious, eco performance car at one end...your focused un-spacious performance car at the other and your heart's desire occupying the middle ground....
I can't help feeling it's a great problem to have (real world & all that), however the more i look at alternatives the tougher it's becoming.your spacious, eco performance car at one end...your focused un-spacious performance car at the other and your heart's desire occupying the middle ground....
Although i'm not a huge fan of Chris Harris's reviews (clearly got him the Top gear job however so prices how little i know), i do often value his take on cars & this review of the 570S somewhat surprised me, especially as he makes several comparisons to the Porsche Turbo S.

Didn't get to drive the 570S, that's been postponed until next Friday. Manchester have a white one in the showroom & a black one as their Demo. Both looked stunning.
Took out a new Tesla Model S P90D & that was quite a surprise. The speed of the thing was relentless & it had the Ludicrous upgrade so 0-60 in 2.8sec & a 10.5 1/4 mile. Very quirky travelling that quickly in virtual silence & the regenerative braking wold take a bit of getting used to, but overall i was extremely impressed with the car & the Tech is a whole other level to anything else i've experienced.
