You might want to have a word with RUF about their 911 Targa Florio Turbo...

It comes with 620bhp and you can choose either two or four wheel drive and also the option of an auto or manual gearbox and you can drop the targa roof when the sun comes out smile
I like that a lot!

Hi

Througout my life I've wanted to own a 911 so in 2009 I bought a Gen 2 911 Carerra 4s Targa, PDK with all the trimmings. Great car that it is I sold it 6 months into ownership, 911's are clinical, good in every department however it left me feeling cold. Times have moved on so should I is how I felt! After that I bought a Maserati Quattroporte GTS before swapping it for the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti one to one I currently own.

And once again I believe times have moved on, put your name down for a McLaren 570S spider as I will do. Out 2017, probably around £170k mark, worst case buy the hard top and control the options. I'd never thought I'd say this but McLaren Is the way forward, the 570S is a game changer.

Watch this space Ferrari,Lambo et al!

Remembering the S8 hillclimb video a few months back I wonder what these 2 new offerings from Audi could do with some fettling?

I live in London and have yet to see an RS7 on the road but what a sleeper!

OP is 6ft & Mrs OP 5ft 9. The rear seating really would only be used on the rarest of occasions & even then it would likely be the youngest (2yrs old) in his Isofix carseat & he'd go behind his Mum. The priorities are the ability to be a daily driver, make me want to take the car out just for the hell of it, schleps onto the Continent & probably 4-5 UK trackways & a couple of days hooning round Spa/Zolder. Basically a step up from the BMW M's & Audi RS's so something that's out & out Sports car but as said initially the 911 Turbo was a car i've lusted after since childhood & i think is possibly the only car that can tick the boxes & provide relief for the long established itch.
If you really want to do track days, then the option space is very limited. 911s are perfect to drive to the track, spend the day on track and then drive home wihtout any issue. Not many cars can do that.

This is the S-Class, not the E-class wink
See, Mercedes have gone like Audi & every car looks the same nowadays. I didn't even know Merc did an S-Class coupe. Even at 46 i'm a few years too young for such a car but it would no doubt be fun.

I'm slightly biased being a Turbo owner but there is a reason why they are so popular and somebody else said it earlier: there aren't many cars quite like it.

if you need the occasional +2 in the back, have you considered the latest Vanquish? I would find it hard to walk past the FF mind...

I think that sums it up.

Did think about the 2 car option but although it should, it just doesn't get my juices flowing as i've always tried to satisfy all my requirements in one car which is what this purchase would ideally be. The wife has a Mini Countryman which she'll chop in for an Evoque when i go less practical than my M5, also hoping to buy a Clio Cup snotter in the Spring to play on some local UK tracks.

Having everything in the one car i'd hope to enjoy every drive i undertake, be that 250 miles from home to my office, a quick blast at the weekends or our annual trip to Spa along with some UK track days.

Turbo S with winters....not a shrug..gets up ...gets done..delivers...

hell ..can even snow plough if you must...

try that in your 570S...it will be slumbering with an RS.....

for four seats ...Jeremy C showed off the FF and Bentley too in adverse conditions:

Try the New Evora 400, honestly you will be amazed at how they drive and the general quality of the thing. In a straight line it will not trouble a 911 turbo, very little does, but it makes geat noises, rides better and gives far more feedback through your rear and through the wheel, if those sorts of things are important.

It will be much rarer (some argue good reason, Toyota engine bla bla ....), depreciate less whilst still having 2+2 practicality.

A small bonus no one can argue with is the £50k change left in your bank account!!

I am very tempted to retire my old E39 M5 for one.

Lots of good suggestions, but if you've always promised yourself a Turbo S then surely that's what you're going to get?
Having said that, the rumoured 2+2 version of the McLaren 570S would be a much more of an 'event' and not 'just' the top of the range 911...
Totally agree, however as the Turbo S is now priced squarely in Supercar territory i had one of those opposite to Man maths moments where it dawned on me this purchase would be double any previous car purchase i've made & thus before signing any paperwork it would be remiss of me not to check out the competition at this price point.

Wasn't aware a 2+2 570S was in the pipeline, any idea on potential launch dates?
My understanding is that there will not be a 2+2 570.

The lineup of Sports Series (540/570) models will be Coupe, Spider and GT. The GT will have more storage (the rear deck will go and be replaced by an opening hatch) and possible more room in the cabin. I believe the GT is the second model in the lineup (2016/2017 availability) and the Spider will be last.

How about an Aston DB11 ?

In the next couple of months we should know:

what it looks like ( its an Aston it will be a looker)

what it drives like ( V12 Turbo should be enough- amg gearbox ?)

how much it will cost ( north of £150k ?)

whether the kids will fit in the back ( it ll need to be roomier than DB9 it replaces !)

And the bonus is it probably wont be replaced for 10 years !!

If four wheel drive is your priority then go for an FF! Turbo or not, 911's are a tad cold however I do miss the cornering grip of the 4S, immense!

Then again nothing pulls as hard or sounds as good as a Ferrari V12......

Confused?

Have had a 997 turbo (Gen 1.5) for just over a year, nothing comes close.
More practical and faster than my mates F430, you can't beat a 911. They haven't produced the for 50 years for no reason.
Buy the Porsche you won't regret it.

As far as I'm aware Porsche are one of the only manufacturers who honour their warranty if you are using your car on track ..... McLaren may do so subject to faffing around with expensive inspections.

An insurance policy that covers unlimited track days (Mannings) and a bulletproof warranty certainly makes last minute bookings a pleasure - you can thrash most vehicles bar Radicals, and then as others have mentioned you can then drive home in comfort; happy days!

I agree on the Evora 400. We have one, fit a 6 year old and a 3 year old in the back, use the car daily, and it puts a smile on our faces every time; we should do 15,000 miles in our first year of ownership.

The suspension is amazingly compliant, very luxurious on long journeys. Everyone seems to think it's a Ferrari, and it sounds IMMENSE!

Sad to say the 570S 2+2 isn't a 2+2 but a Cayman type job. More touring oriented and expensive than the standard sports model. Agree 100% to go for Spyder instead which should be out next year when 650 gets replaced. The Mac is a much better drive than the 991 but not as practical, I dithered and decided to keep my 991-50 as I didn't really need the power. So if you are going to get a new 991.2 bear in mind that the reported performance is a bit understated and the S's are running 3.5 to 60. Unless it has to be a TS and that would be an excellent choice I'd be tempted to order a GTS now. 2WD, bound to be 450hp and well under 3.5 sec. Cheaper and will hold value better.

This is going to be a bit different, but what about one of the new Japo Motorsports R34 Skyline GTR's? Practical, 4wd, one of the best sounding engines on the planet.

The intelligent choice would be to buy a Caterham or somesuch for track-day thrills and spend the change on a Ferrari 550 Maranello. They look way more special than a 911 and the rate they are going up, you will have made enough profit after a year to buy a new Turbo S as well:

Not sure about the swoopy slashes on the after market front bumper, but other than that, it's ruddy gorgeous.

As said though elsewhere...if you've lasted after a turbo s for years, looking around for alternatives to your hearts' desire will only confuse.
That rather unique Targa, FF or DBS though... if you werent't 100% wink
