lots of folks wishing it was - and lots of folks desperate that it does. but you know the ones that keep harping on that its going to crash that its going to falter are the ones that are hurting that they never got in at the start and are priced out the market.

The 991 and 997 GT3's are fundamentally different. In the 997 you wear it and in the 991 it wears you. The performance gap between the gen 1 997 and gen 2 is far smaller than the price difference making the gen 1 a better buy. In the long term they will both be coveted. The 991 may be if the next generation of GT3 has a turbo or hybrid engine.

Valid points - I'd also say the added appeal of GT3 gen 2 is PSM which for many gives a welcome safety net on the road.

Personally .1 was the way to go for many reasons, one of them being the lower value meant less hassle come insurance renewal time as £75k and above they start getting twitchy, plus this can be taken across to track insurance and also how I felt I could use the car, as spanking a .2 GT3 round the track worth up to double the money of a .1 I felt wouldn't encourage it to be driven as intended! biggrin

I feel the 991 is much more a GT now and much bigger... hence I've gone GT4 after my 997.2 GT3 do I regret the change on balance I don't think so but it is close.

Gt4 has better gearchange
GT3 engine better

Gt4 better sound..

You can go on.

Having sold both a Mk1 996 GT3 Clubsport in a desirable colour and a 964 RS in an equally desirable colour in the last three weeks, I can confirm the market is still there, but it's softened.
I suspect the peak of the fast inflating bubble was the end of the first quarter last year, thereafter the best of the best still sold 9and continue to do so, but the market started to turn it's back on the crazy prices being asked by the more avaricious dealers and vendors.

The collectors are still out there and are buying the creme de la creme, but the enthusiasts who want to own the cars to drive are waiting for car to come to the market that are "sensibly" priced, or they're waiting for the bubble to deflate further.

Meanwhile the ever increasing posse of whining, whingeing individuals who missed the boat (and always will miss the boat....) eek post their usual diatribes on here and steadfastly pray for the days when Mk1 996 GT3's return to £32k, the 964 RS £22k, the 993 RS to £35k, 996 GT3 RS to £62k and the 996 GT2 to £36k. hehe

That'll be quite some wait .....

The better sound comment was merely because you can actually hear the GT4! I ended up putting a centre bypass on the GT3 as it was so quiet it still seems to leave the noise behind more though.

Do really like the sound the GT4 makes as well..

Sorry that the GT3 is gone. Lovely car. I think that you will miss it.

You may have a point regarding the above by the way.

Absolutely, the cars are now getting on a bit and also quite rare, certainly in good condition and hence collectable. They'll never return to the low numbers and the more time passes the more they'll appreciate albeit prob quite slowly..
If you want a nice, fast collectable and more importantly superb GT car from the past, get into a 996 GT3 or a 997 GT3 now I'd say as they won't go any lower.
As for the 997 Gen 2 GT3 having spoken to some people they reckon that it's at its tops for at least a couple of years at 110k ish. If profit / free driving is your thing then the 996 and 997.1 GT3's should be on your to-do list now...

have to disagree that the gen2 is at the top, it looks like it because a few cars have stuck, they are not the best examples, find a clean rarely tracked cs and it will sell very quickly, reason there is nothing to compare them too for 100 - 120K. Would I swap mine for a 12c - hahaha or an Aston Vantage hahaha, not even a GT4. watch what happens spring to summer etc. this time next year will be 150K.

It'll be interesting to see. The 4.0 RS has taken another jump just recently at about 430k now for a nice RHD car and this has been dragging up the 3.8 which is now closing on 200k.
The issues are though at that money is that people initially wanted print outs of revs / over revs then the wanted matching numbers cars if investing 150k plus and now for the 3.8 RS and 4.0 they're after all this plus original paint on every panel.
As prices climb, the buyer becomes more pedantic sorry should I say investor and hence if it snot perfect it won't make the grade, will not be bought or will command much less money.

Can't argue with that, would be exactly the same if was buying these cars now. one thing for sure 3 and rs are fabulous to drive, to hear it's bark bouncing off walls etc. is nothing short of spine tingling. 991 rs drive next week at pec, looking forward to comparing against 3.8
