'Never had any success with getting a good finish. Anyone have any personal experience of a paint that gives a glossy or "teflon" type finish? Not interested in the matt finish paints. Cheers.

The system is too old to warrant sending away for specialist coating, just trying to tidy up without spending £400 on a stainless set up.

It's an old mild steel system? They rarely die from surface rust on the outside...

What are you wanting to "tidy"? Just the tailpipe? That's cool enough that almost any high-temp paint'll be fine.

Cheers for the reply. It's the full system on a 500 Morini v-twin. I think it left the factory with what was known as a "black chrome" finish. It's had thirty odd years of minor scratches and scrapes but is basically solid. As you say, the silencers will remain cool enough but the downpipes will need something special...

When I did my Mrs' Yamaha, I used the standard Matt black high temp stuff, then high temp clear laquer over the top. Looks alright.

I have heard from quite a few people that Black Chroming has been banned effective from 1st Jan this year, Ive also read that EU wish to ban the deep chrome finish many restorers offer in the next few years.

These guys may be able to offer something close.

Not sure if it's the look you are after but Hammerite do high temp paint that might do the job.

I have had good results on the calipers on my car.

Simply cleaned and applied 1 coat. They need doing again now but its lasted 4 years. I think it was cost about £10 from Halfords.

Thanks for the replies - I may just tidy up the silencers as it now looks like the downpipes won't come off without a fight (and subsequent damage). I'll post some pic's when it's all done.

I couldn't find any glossy paint for my exhausts.

I don't think calliper paint would hold up to the temperatures.

Por15 paint was great at self levelling and the finish was by glossy but I don't think they do anything night temp.

Be interested to see if you find anything suitable.
