Hi,

Got a very well looked after used Boxster 987

However from day one I feel that the manual gearbox is a bit sloppy (especially after my previous bmw), easily wobbles in neutral.

Plus, sometimes I can't put it on first gear from stationary and I have to release the clutch and press it again for the first gear to work.

Common behaviour or potential problems?

Thanks

doesn't sound right. should be easy to get into 1st and should feel precise rowing it into each slot. get it checked out.

Could be the cables are out of adjustment.

Take your centre console off and check the cables. They are easy to adjust. There is one cable for left to right and one for up/down gear.
Had a similar issue with mine not engaging reverse.

also a 997 short shift unit drops straight in and works really well in the Boxster.

Been to a specialist.

Have been told that on Boxsters it's normal for the gearbox to feel a bit sloppy like mine, while on Boxsters S it usually feels more firm/stiff.

Also been told that Boxsters often have problems with selecting the second gear (not as much first gear though like mine) which been told is normal.
