Anyone bought one or taken delivery of their lease yet?

My lease arrives a week today, so it'd be great to hear any current owners' thoughts on the car, the engine, real world performance or pictures.

One thing I'm intrigued on these, is it the same engine as the A3/Golf i.e COD/ACT, only I don't remember reading about such technology on the reports of these?

I've got the ACT in the Golf, and for me at least it's been lovely to be back in a daily petrol, & a smooth & powerful one, all things relative of course.

How are you getting on with yours now you have had it for a few weeks?

Well to be honest I've not used it much yet really - I think I've only put about 150 miles on it. It's mainly used for local trips like supermarket or family visits or carting myself and footy stuff to Sunday league matches!

However, so far it's proved a very decent companion. It almost makes you drive in a smooth sedate manner as it's so hushed and well insulated from road and wind noise. It really is a relaxing place to be. I obviously do miss the ZF 8 speed auto and 6 cylinder powerplant from my previous M135i, but the A4 is still adequate for the road - just a little more effort using a manual and with less effortless punch.

One thing I do need to get used to is the gearing. I've noticed that second gear is no good for 90 degree corners taken at slow speed as there's literally no pick up whatsoever. You'd need to drop down to first gear to get the revs spinning and have some actual acceleration available. It's something to beware of when approaching a roundabout at low speed too - in the M135i I could see a gap and just go, whereas I now have to ensure I'm not forgetting that I now have a small capacity turbo engine which needs to have a few revs available before actually shifting into a space. Lurching onto a roundabout in second with foot flat and no acceleration is not a nice feeling. Once the turbo spools then it is actually pretty brisk, it's just not immediately available in any gear.

Other than that, I've found the seats comfortable, the space in the back extremely generous and the boot perfectly practical. For such a cheap lease deal I think I'd normally expect a tool of much lower build quality so I'm pleased. I've got a trip down to Cornwall planned for the end of April so I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs as a motorway mile muncher. On the couple of motorway trips I've made so far, it's proved very capable and sits comfortably at the speed limit ( hehe ) essentially wafting along nicely. The music system and the nav are also very good too (although the MMI system isn't the simplest to use - I found iDrive more intuitive).

Hope that helps. smile

Cheers for that, I get mine in 3 weeks time, also coming from M135i(manual) so will be interesting to see how I adjust to the lower powered engine. Won't be too bothered though as I am saving over £100 a month.

Is that the SE? Does the sport come with more buttons on the steering wheel?

Nope it's the sport version. Standard with no options so that's the sum total of steering wheel buttons!

Picked up my A4 Avant today. Car is very nice everything you would expect. Especially like the lit up at night door handles. Quite a bit of lag until the turbo kicks in to the extent that if you are in the wrong gear you really do not move at all, once it picks up it goes pretty well though. Not a rocket ship, mind.

Quick "reveal" vid from the dealer today.

Blimey, that front wheel arch gap is huge.

Already planned ahead. Saw some of the pics on earlier threads and changed my order to include Sports Suspension @ £250. Lowers it by 20mm, I just couldn't live with that arch gap.

Does anyone think the stereo sounds thin / lacking in bass? Mine has a lot less bass than my previous car, which was ten years old and had a blown speaker. It even has a lot less punch than a six year old fiesta I was in recently. Adjusting the settings doesn't really help, I can turn the bass up but it sounds like an old stereo trying to put a lot of bass through a small speaker (i.e. crap).

I wouldn't be surprised to find out the sub isn't connected.

I need to book it in to get the steering wheel looked at (it squeaks when turning) so I'll get them to check the stereo as well.

Have to say I find the stereo in mine great so it sounds like something might not be quite right in yours.

One thing that frustrates me is the electric handbrake, does anyone know if there is a way of setting it to automatically engage when the ignition is turned off? All of the other cars I've had with an electric brake do that and so it caught me out initially - it's not a major issue now that I know but it would be useful if it could be.

Still a couple of months to wait for mine (1.4 Sport Avant in White), but prior to getting it I'm trying to understand the Audi Connect free 3 month trial. Does that mean they supply a data sim for 3 months, or does this mean that it's just free subscription to Audi Connect and after that you have to pay for the subscription (and if so what is the cost?), and I would still have to supply a SIM and pay data?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I got my A4 saloon delivered this week and asked the dealer about the Audi Connect trial.
Basically you either need your own data SIM to put in the car or you use a smart phone as an access point that the car connects to.
I don't have unlimited data on my phone so not bothered to try it.
Have connected my phone via USB to use Android Auto and that works a treat so get Google Maps displayed on the MMI screen.

Other than that very pleased with the car. Very quiet and comfortable and actually has a bit of pace if you put your foot down.
I have found pulling away from a standstill actually better if you use more gentle throttle as to me it seems to allow the turbo to come in earlier?

Fuel economy is ok but not amazing - Very low 40's at the moment doing mixed driving but expect that to improve a bit as the engine loosens up.
Overall though very pleased.

Someone asked me on another thread how I was getting on with the A4, so I thought I'd copy and paste my thoughts here too:

The A4 is very well put together and a really rather nice thing.

Good points:

1. Very comfortable and compliant suspension (helped by not wearing rubber band tyres).
2. Very quiet and relaxing on a motorway cruise. Certainly very little in the way of wind/tyre noise.
3. Loads of space. Legroom in the back is cavernous and the boot is good too. I easily slotted a flat pack chest of drawers in there with the seats down two weekends ago.
4. Lovely interior. Well it's an Audi I suppose, so didn't expect any less.
5. Modern tech as standard is very good - sat nav is efficient and works well, Apple carplay is good, DAB radio is more reliable than in the M135i, auto wipers are also not mental like in the M135i.
6. Once on the move at motorway speeds, it really does move along rather briskly without fuss.
7. Speaker system is miles better than the basic system in the M135i, which along with the refinement on the motorway means I can listen to BBC 5Live without getting out at the end of a long journey with my ears ringing from all the white noise!

Not-so-good points:
1. It's a small capacity 1.4 so doesn't sound interesting. Obviously I wasn't expecting it to!
2. Turbo lag is bordering on epic when at low speeds trying to get moving - this is not great for pulling out at junctions and wondering why you're not moving and then all of a sudden the tyres light up and you need to change gear.
3. So far the economy isn't amazing - c. 37mpg I think but it's all been town driving. I guess what I mean by this is that for the compromise on power and noise and fun compared to the M135i, the increase in economy isn't worth it. The numbers may improve with time and on a long run. I'll be off to Cornwall next week so will see how that 5 hour journey works out.

Hope that's of vague interest.

Thanks for this. I have decent data on my phone contract so will probably use that for the 3 months Audi Connect trial to try it out.

Did the dealer mentioned what happened at the end of the Audi Connect Trial? What's the cost if I want to continue it?

No, sorry I didn't ask as not going to use it.

Received mine yesterday and am loving it so far, certainly an upgrade to my 04 plate Vectra.

There does seem to be a lack of cubbyholes, I'd like somewhere to put my sunglasses, perhaps small change etc as I'm using the middle section for the key and my phone. You can tell I'm easily pleased if this is my only gripe.

I'm going to have a go at hooking up my iPhone later, I didn't get it to work this morning so will have a play later, perhaps I need to do it via USB?

I may read the manual later too.
