I've driven a 997 Turbo but not on snow, which is what my post was specifically addressing. Here's a rwd GTS on snow:

The two clips from 1:50 onwards show where a 4wd setup (even if heavily rear biased) would be of benefit. Without the front "pulling" you out of the slide, as the speed builds eventually the rear will rotate however hard you try. Hence why those clips are cut short!

Going back to my desperate indecision regarding whether to spec manual or PDK and Rear axle steering or not on my May build 991.2 Gts have booked a day's driving experience at Porsche Silverstone this thursday.They have confirmed i will be driving both 991.2S manual and PDK and hopefully RAS and make my final build easier to finalise.

I'll be interested to hear your feedback as so many people like the PDK these days - even some the die hard manual users.I am getting an April delivery GTS 991.2 so I went to the Porsche Experience Centre last week to 'test' the manual and the RWS. I have a 981 Spyder and was hoping the 7 speed manual was going to be as good as the Spyder's 6 speed box. However, in my opinion, it wasn't nearly as good and I am definitely going PDK in the GTS. It just feels 'long' and 'slack' compared to the Spyder but I think I also concluded that the 911 is really suited to the PDK (again in my opinion) and I'm someone who never thought they would be buying a PDK. As for the RWS I really couldn't say whether it was worth it or not as I couldnt notice any difference. So, I'm going PDK, with no RWS.

This is interesting as its exactly what i'm going to do this thursday.I currently have a GT4 and i'm not prepared to gamble on my May build 991GTS manual shift being inferior; on the subject of RWS i'm looking forward to see if i can find positive tangible benefits,if not i will leave this box unticked.Fascinating that you could find no benefits and just reitirates that RWS is very much a love it or leave it option like no other.2010spy said:

Its a shame they don't offer the SSK on the 991...I wonder why they don't ? Maybe it's something to do with the lever being mounted higher up than it is on the 997. Taffy66 said:

Hopefully you should come away from Thursday having had a good feel for all options re. gearbox and chassis. Driving both setups back to back will be perfect to decide which options you really want. On the handling circuit, after the double apex fast right hander after the main straight, there's a big stop into a 2nd gear left hander - this is the corner which I think will confirm to you if you like RWS or not...!From my experience, the GT4 gearbox is particularly good, but I just don't get on with the 991's 7-speed manual - its as if there's too much movement across the gate, and its just feels imprecise (there are 5 planes after all, R 1 3 5 7)

They do not have a 991.2GTS yet and i'm just using up one of my existing PEC invites before they run out, i just requested back to back tests on PDK/manual and RWS/no RWS 991.2S to help me choose my final spec GTS.IRE, you sum it well with this. Maybe a bit extreme, but it felt a bit like a van's gearbox. As soon as I did the first gear change I just said no. It was that simple. I'd had the PDK the weekend before for 24 hours and acually found myself really enjoying it, despite being determined to not like it.

Don't forget that you can take the cars out on the road as well not just the track. Might be useful? I had no real view on RWS. I went to try it, but to be honest could not feel anything different. It gives it a smaller turning circle at slow speeds, but that's all I could really pick up. I drove between some cones which was fun, but no idea whether it was better or not. I try to avoid driving in between cones on the road.

A question to dot 1 non-ducktail / aerobat owners... can you ever see the spoiler when its out (from the driver's seat)?
I've never been able to see when mine is up until yesterday - as I was driving along I definitely spotted it in my rear view mirror.
Seat position same as always, nothing else has changed. I even saw it disappear as my speed reduced.
Today, back to not being able to see it.
What gives? Does it vary its position? I had the sunroof open on the day I saw it, but surely that can't make a difference.
Confused!

Think I remember reading somewhere the spoiler raises higher when the roof is open due to different airflow? Would explain it... perhaps try with the roof open again?I've never been able to see when mine is up until yesterday - as I was driving along I definitely spotted it in my rear view mirror.
