Thanks....yes, what you say makes sense, i.e. Not huge individual differences but added together they have more impact on the experience. The problem I'll have, reading this thread as well as checking online, is finding one I like. I want to stick with a manual and given the choice, a 4 GTS too (live in NE Scotland with attendant weather) - quite fancy that lime gold affair that's for sale at the moment (not that it's a 4) but couldn't stick with that colour....wrap or respray....decisions, decisions....
Yes finding a manual 4 will be a challenge. For what it's worth about 7 years ago I said I'd never have a PDK type gearbox. Now I'd never have a manual! The PDK is just so suited to the car I think, I love it. Have you driven a PDK for an extended time?... Colour is a really personal thing, personally I couldn't live with that lime gold colour at all!

I test drove a PDK just before I bought my 4S as the salesman at Aberdeen PC insisted that I really didn't want a manual, despite my insistence to the contrary. I thought the PDK was great to be honest - extremely quick & easy to use. However, it did seem to add some detachment to the driving experience. Also, I didn't like the fact that even in manual mode, if you floored it, it kicked down automatically. Amusingly, with my wife in the car on the test drive, I thought I'd see what sort of shove it had in 7th on the motorway so (in manual mode) at about 60mph I put my foot down....& as I'm sure you guessed, it put me in 2nd and we took off....much the surprise and concern of my passenger.Colour is a really personal thing, personally I couldn't live with that lime gold colour at all!
To my mind, the PDK would absolutely be the best gearbox for daily driving (traffic etc) and on the track, it'd beat the manual easily I should think. However, I got the car for messing around on windy, hilly roads in my time off - hence the desire for the manual. I'd be interested to see if there's a difference between the newer 7 speed manual and mine. Although mine's come in for a slating, I've never had any issues with it (either getting lost - which seems an odd comment to me - or notchiness).

Don't think it kicks down in sport plus manual mode? Maybe in sport too? Can't remember to be honest but I never find it an issue and drive in manual most of the time in either sport or sport plus so I'm sure I would have noticed it.To my mind, the PDK would absolutely be the best gearbox for daily driving (traffic etc) and on the track, it'd beat the manual easily I should think. It only kicked down because you clicked the 'button' at the end of the accelerator travel. You have to press that pretty hard so just press the accelerator normally and that won't be an issue.

Thanks for the comments - might have been an early model (was a few years ago) & I can't remember if I was in S or S+. Got some thinking (and persuading) to do - be interesting to see what I'm offered trade in for mine.

OK - thanks. Didn't know that. Certainly surprised to be launched up the road in 2nd. You have to press that pretty hard so just press the accelerator normally and that won't be an issue.
Straw poll - am I being too precious rejecting carrara white metallic for not looking special enough? I just can't see myself coming downstairs in the morning and being wowed by white in the way I'd like to be for 90k+. I know a lot of people love the metallic white and I'm sure the resale would be fine...but the connection just isn't there for me.
I tested a lovely example today and wanted to fall for the colour...but I just haven't.

I'll be honest I don't get the current popularity of white cars....mind it was very popular in the 80's. RS Turbo's and Golf Gti Convertibles! That said I think it's hear to stay...something like 30% of cars sold are white so I am in a minority it appears! I tested a lovely example today and wanted to fall for the colour...but I just haven't.
As said previously personal choice but the GTS looks fantastic in white particularly against the monochrome black trim and wheels.
I had a Cayman and a 997GTS in white and loved them both but thought I wanted a change - although I Bought on spec and condition not colour.
White is a dream to live with and if you get it detailed and coated it doesn't show swirls or marks easily so that's a big plus.
If I was lucky enough to get a .2GT3 white would be on the list given the PITA over PTS allocations.
