Hi Folks,

It is with some trepidation I post my videos on Pistonheads! Anyway I thought you might like to take a look.

I understand there is still no way to embed a video into this forum?

I have two videos, one is charting the mods made over the last three years up until last week. The second is the most recent updates made to the car.

1st Video: Last three years
https://youtu.be/Rvjty2HVbk4

2nd Video: Most recent updates
https://youtu.be/JgtV4x_St1k

And yes it cost a fortune and yes I'm nuts so don't ask! Almost all parts are OEM with the exception of some carbon parts (side air intakes, third brake light plate) which were made by DB-Carbon in Germany. All the other parts are OEM including the decklid.

Enjoy.

Fantastic loved that. I remember reading about the early stages of the transformation in Porsche Post so really good to see it unfold in the videos. Enjoy the car must be a beast.

enjoyed that, not done the front end or carbon bonnet yet right?

So you will end up with a 4wd turbo, with engine tuned to similar power (but not the GT titanium conrods and other higher spec ancillaries) and a very good like-a-like GT2 RS inside and out?

What have you done with the old turbo bits? Is it completely reversible?

Thanks folks. Yes it was in Porsche Post in the early stages, and then the new editor came in and wasn't interested in any further contributions.

It's staying 4WD, this is one of the reasons I bought a Turbo over a GT2 3 years ago, as at the time there was only about £20k difference in price.

I suppose it would be reversible but why would to want to do that? This car is a keeper, I'll never sell so long as I can afford to keep it so I'm not worried about reselling it. Although I'm sure if I did there would be someone out there who would buy it as it is.

Car is going in for front end at the end of the month. I have all the parts brand new: the carbon bonnet, carbon fenders/wings, GT2 Bumper, carbon grills, centre radiator GT2 conversion parts and all the other parts waiting to go on.

do you recall how much the PCM3 conversion cost, with the USB audio connection? Did you add gen 2 bluetooth too?

The PCM 3 upgrade was expensive. And it's not plug and play, you have to replace the Bose Amp if you have Bose or the non-Bose amp if you don't. You have to rewire the amp wires as they are different and you need to rewire the PCM wires as they are also different. You then need to buy codes to activate the various bits (Bluetooth, iPod, SatNav). The codes cannot be bought from Porsche but a group of us who did this conversion found a guy who can provide them. Yes my car had Bluetooth, SatNat and iPod connectivity. All in and installing it yourself it's going to be about £1800 assuming you can find a PCM that is in working condition for the right price. I got mine from the US. It was described as being 'removed new from a 2011 car', and it certainly looked new when it arrived.

All the parts I remove are sold on afterwards. I sold the rear seats and seatbelts etc to a bloke in Birmingham who has a GT3 and three kids whom are always fighting over who gets to go in his car. I sold the deck-lid, it's being collected this weekend. I have some parts still which I haven't got round to selling like the Turbo intercoolers, and other bits of trim. I will have a front Turbo bumper soon if anyone is in the market!

I do love the commitment shown in this project; it certainly is a long-term venture and a real mission. I even love the pragmatism of keeping the 4WD system (and why not, it is excellent, as you say) and the acknowledgement that this is a car for 'you' not something that constantly considers originality, investment, re-sale etc. etc. Of course, done well, it will likely always find a buyer, but recouping all costs can never be the point.

thanks for the info Isysman - you can ignore my PM

Its certainly a car I would consider buying if I could put the rear seats back in and the buckets are the folding ones - really nice project

please post a video when its complete

Wow, this is commitment! I remember looking into the GT2 RS carbon bits when i had a Turbo S and the prices were astronomical. The car looks so much better though.

A nice touch with the GT2RS is the front wings. The GT3 RS has the cheap, stuck on arch extenders whilst the GT2 RS has moulded wings with the extensions all as one piece. I didn't realise until i was lucky enough to compare side-by-side when Supercar Detailing had both cars in for some work.

In terms of a weight comparison, where do you think you'll be at the end? I think it would be quite cool to have a bit more poke so you can match the GT2 RS' power-to-weight ratio. Just an idea smile

In fact the GT2RS also has the expensive stuck on arch extenders, a different part from the GT3RS as the 2's front PU is a different shape. UK GT2RS's all got the carbon wings but most other markets got the stick ons unless specced otherwise (at great expense) - I think the stuck on ones look cooler, more a nod to original GT2.

There you go, in fact the pic reminded me that the UK GT2RS also has the "stuck on" arch bit on the bumper, no eascaping these cheap stick ons hehe

Might have to get me some of those cheap stick-ons, where did you get them from? Would they look a bit crap with the standard PU? My car's leaving the Porsche warranty after next week so it might be time to personalise it a bit.

So my carbon wings arrived today (both of them). I shot a quick video of what they look like as I've had a few people asking to share photos once delivered. They do seem very flimsy indeed when you pick them up!

Yes you can buy a GT2RS with winglets. However all of the cars sold in the UK were sold with carbon wings.

TB993TT I was at Tech9 yesterday and saw your car there. It is stunning. I posted some photos on my build thread on 911uk.com of it. I also ordered some of those tailpipes from Felix at Kline. Love them. And the reason I was there was ordering a pair of the lower winglets for the front bumper; the only missing parts I need.

I also have these to go on. Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres

I don't know how much weight I've saved right now. I do have a link somewhere to individual items and what they weigh from an American website, I keep meaning to add it up, but haven't got round to it yet. Eventually I am going to have hybrid turbos fitted most likely by 9e so then it will outperform a standard GT2RS. That's a while off yet though. After the front end has been done I'm fitting Damptronics and a lifting kit. Then I'm removing the sunroof (I know that weighs 18Kilos) and am fitting a carbon roof. I'm also probably going to fit the lexan lightweight plastic windows fitted in the GT2RS at that time as the front and rear windows need to come out to do the roof.

Once these two jobs are sorted I'll be looking to 9e and also to fit a LWFW and uprated clutch.

They are not cheap! I just found this out as I had to buy just the lower winglets from Porsche. I tried to get them in various places, including the motorosport ones which you then modify to remove the indicator blank but they are not available anywhere (if you can get these they are half the price). The ones I bought from Porsche... £317 EACH! I don't know who is more nuts, Porsche for coming up with that figure or me for paying it?

st the bed! I guess they can fairly validly argue tooling costs, low volumes, note from their mum etc. etc. but it still sounds steep.

Hilarious! Although it's nice to have the cosy feeling you have got an OEM part.

Looking forward to seeing the end result and interesting to hear that the carbon front wings/fenders were an option!

Yes I think your comments are most likely the reasons they would use (especially note from mum). There are few around it seems as initially when I asked, they could only find one in Germany. They managed to find another but it doesn't sound like they keep many in stock. The motorsport ones which also come from Porsche where completely out of stock.
