Brilliant thread, thanks for sharing!

Have you met Rob at DMS Southampton, as he has built a similar project with silly BHP.

Hi it was actually DMS where I had my own engine mods. When I was there in 2014 he had a Turbo with GT2 front and rear bumpers. He liked my centre lock wheels and I suspected he might do the same, do you know if he did?

He has, had the GT2 wheels when I was there in January 16. I think the car may have come on since your last visit as if my memory serves me right it had a few additions such as the carbon bonnet when I was there.

Love your car though. Will be epic when complete, keep the updates coming.

Got a nice delivery in the post a couple of days ago: my new tailpipes from Kline! Made from Inconel. Looking forward to getting these bad boys fitted.

As far as getting the car back I'm told 22nd at the earliest based on them getting the car back from the paint shop early next week (car goes in for paint Wednesday) and no more parts needing to be ordered.

Inconel tailpipes sound a little contrived in my opinion; the strength, durability and weight advantages are hardly put to the test for a couple of bolt on tailpipes! Good pubt chat though i guess wink

Out of curiosity, how different is the GT2's exhaust system (incl manifold) to a Turbo?

Well I could have bought an entire exhaust system in that material but as I already have a recent Kline exhaust system on my car I didn't need it. The material used was irrelevant to me really, I love the look so I would have bought had they been in Alloy or whatever. I have Titanium tailpipes at the moment which are OEM. Same could be said about them or the carbon mirrors or air intakes etc. Ultimately I fitted them because they look cool IMO.

As far as I know the exhaust difference is only where the pipes exit the bumper that is different. I had to altar mine as it was for the Turbo.

Brilliant thread. I've been thinking of doing something similar to my 997 Turbo S but I didn’t realise until reading this how many parts would be required.
At this point I’m happy with the performance of my car and still getting to grips with the power.

What sort of figure do you think you have spent on the exterior of the car excluding the wheels?

I don't have exact figures in my head and I haven't totted up the invoices for fear I might through myself off a building. However just a quick calculation in my head now of figures on outside, with all OEM parts you are looking at about £25-30k. THat's assuming you do it properly and replace all the ducting etc like I'm doing. My price is slightly lower as my bonnet is not OEM. That's including the labour of paint and fitting. And based on getting some good deals like I have. If you want to Porsche with a list it would be way more. The decklid and wing alone form Porsche unpainted is £18k! I bought mine used.

Actually doing that quick calculation in my head makes me realise that I have spent quite a bit more than I previously thought! I need to go for a lay down!

So I just got my carbon spoiler blade that I ordered from Knight Racer in Milton Keynes. There is one glaring issue with it - I ordered a satin finish blade and a gloss one has turned up! Well the photo they have on their website shows a satin finish so assumed that's what I would get. It took six weeks to arrive even though I was told three. That I can live with but it being the wrong one is very annoying. I could fit it and it would look very nice no doubt but then it wouldn't match the other carbon on the car. I have the third brake light panel in satin carbon and the lower tailpipes surrounds. Not to mention the side air vents and bonnet, mirrors etc.

I spoke to the company and they were apologetic and said if I return it they will have it lacquered for me. However I'm not sure I want it to be lacquered as it will flake off after a while. So I'm thinking of having it wrapped with clear film that reduces the gloss finish.

The quality of the piece is very nice apart from the wrong finish (although I'm not able to offer it to the wing yet to see if it fits perfectly.) If it does then it's a bargain part. This item was £350 inc VAT. And it's made properly (pre-preg) From Porsche it would set you back £3,500!!!

Anyone know a good vehicle wrap company in the North West?

Car was finally painted today - Hooray!!!

Fascinating experience to be there whilst it was done. And to look around Road & Race. More to follow once I get the car back. Looks like either the end of this week or beginning of next week.

I hope so. I've had some delays so the car is not ready. Looking at getting it back next Wednesday now.

Can't wait to see these flared arches on my car!

UIf your order says matt and they've sent gloss they owe you a new matt one.

Don't take ant sh*t.

Well eventually they offered to accept it back and have it re lacquered for me. However I decided to have it done myself. I waited six weeks for it to arrive and I could have waited another six weeks to get it back. Also I couldn't be sure they would do it how I wanted it. As my car was already at Road & Race I took it in and asked the painter to make it look like the rest of the carbon already on my car.

They also said they will update their website to reflect the options of having a gloss one or a satin one as I complained they only showed what looked like a matt one but were selling gloss ones.

Made a short video of my car for the purposes of hearing the exhaust. Video isn't the best as the camera was a bit loose on the on the mount but the audio is fine. I'm planning to make another, better video as soon as I get my car back.

Car has Kline Innovation exhaust with BMC air filter.

Saw the car last week at R&R, a really professional job. Obviously a labour of love with no view to recouping what you have spent and for that clapclapclapclap

Glad you liked it. Interestingly the painter said they thought it was a GT2RS that had been in an accident and was in for repair. Yeah it's a keeper.

No intensions of ever selling it.

Well it has a whole new front end, flared wings, bumper and carbon bonnet so they blended the paint on the doors. But most of the car has had paint now. Rear bumper was changed as was the decklid. I'm putting a new roof panel on to remove the sunroof so only the rear quarters will remain with original paint.
