Afraid I have come to the time to say goodbye to my little Chimaera. My leg is not up to the task anymore of working the clutch in Tokyo traffic, and have finally tired of being punished by the Japan gvt of owing an "old" foreign car with a big engine. I'vehad a lot of fun driving and working on it, but now is time to part ways while we are still friends.

Will have it for a little while longer as I work out the best way to sell it in a country that seems to want to punish me for the ownership one last time. It's been a lot of fun smile. Cheers and thank you all or the help you have given along the way.

Aw, that's a shame;always enjoy reading posts from owners overseas (tend to put the challenges of keeping these things together here in perspective), and really like the idea of a Tiv out there turning heads before then causing them to be scratched. Suitably bonkers!

Lots of memories and photos etc I hope, and hope also that something more practical is found to fill the void come the day yes

Good luck smile

There is a guy who posts photos in the thread in TVR General under the name of Yoichi who appears to have a lot of TVR owning mates. If you haven't come across him locally to you before he may know someone who could be interested.

Hi Darren sorry to hear your thinking of selling.
Thank you for the info concerning things to do / what to see on my recent trip to Japan. I apologise for not arranging to meet, but as you can imagine the whole 2 weeks were very busy and hectic. We certainly got our monies worth out of the Japan rail pass.

Try and keep the Chimaera if possible, the value of all Tvr cars are on the up, but besides that, the pure pleasure of owning and driving one is something you will not get with any other marque.

Thanks guys, I've enjoyed almost every minute owning the car - the two occasions it had to be towed home, not so much biggrin It will leave a big void for a while. Financially it runs about 1200 quid a year on road tax, around 150 a month for insurance as a 3rd car, and another 1000 or so each time it was serviced and 5000 for the last MOT - sold the bike to pay for the last MOT.

I've already dropped Yoichi a mail and waiting to hear from him if there is anyone in the TVRCJ that has a need to buy, as ideally I'd like it to go to someone that would appreciate it, and all the original parts that I kept to go with it if someone were to want to put the original exhausts and lights etc back on. I'm personally very happy with where the car is right now and will take the puppy out in it for a drive and some more video before saying goodbye.

For next there is not a great deal of choice here for what I need. So am leaning towards an Audi TT roadster. I'll still get enjoyment and wind in the hair, just at a slower quieter pace smile

The spot that used to be occupied by the bike is now used by this. Keeps me busy and out of trouble wink

Thomas, not to worry, Japan is a very hectic place especially when visiting for the first time. How is your son enjoying teaching here? Do you think he will stay longer? I'd only came for a holiday 20 years ago, my buddy the following year to visit me. Both still here having fun smile

Tax is done based on engine size, with a bonus additional tax if car is more than 13 years old.

Hmmm... I wonder how much to get it to Sydney and how much they would try to bend me over in fees and costs?

Hope OH don't read this, she is hoping its only a 9 month contract, but this might persuade me to stick around for another year or two.

The guy I'm dealing with to put through the auction house here does a purchasing and export service for New Zealand, he may have some advice or be of help. I can pm you the contact info if you like. I'm hoping to clear enough for my replacement car without having to add much from my savings.

My son was only there on a short term 6 week teaching course. He was teaching Japanese students self empowerment. They need to try and think "outside of the box".

They all behave impeccably and are really keen and eager to learn, but they need to experience the culture and customs, of Countries other than Japan.

He enjoyed his time there, but New Zealand or possibly the USA is where I think he will eventually settle.

Had seven years with my Chimaera 450 and loved every minute of it. I still miss it now but moved on, a little over two years ago, to a Porsche Cayman 3.4S. I now have the 987 gen 2 version although the 981 is the newer (not newest) model that most people opt for. It is a thoroughly unbelievable drive but perhaps worth considering putting a sports exhaust on to help not miss the V8 aural experience too much. My first Cayman sounded incredible! Anyway, it is an option to think about, especially if you are in TT territory (it knocks the socks of that option, easily!). Read a few reviews of the Cayman and check out the car at a local indie or Porsche dealer. You shan't be disappointed fella, despite saying goodbye to your P & J. If I had the funds available I would definitely have both Chimaera and Cayman. Not a doubt about it.

Just a final update. Car is now gone, finally had to let it go for about 6,500. There was a possibility of it going back to the uk for a while, but this fell through when brevity killed the exchange rate.

Shop that has it now selling it for about 14,000 - healthy mark up. But still locally a good buy for this car I think. Included all my spares and original parts for it but kept the bible smile.

Currently looking for new job before getting the next fun car. Did really enjoy this journey into TVRs

Gutted I have just seen this I would have given you more than £6.5k. That will teach me not to be on the forum 24/7.

Sorry had not been on here for a while and faced a number of let downs on the sale. Would have preferred a private sale to someone who likes TVR's instead of selling it to a used car lot.

That Japan website is an eye opener to watch. My old car on there sold pretty quickly from the used car dealer on there for over double the price they paid me. Now it has reappeared on the website, travelling all the way to the top of the country and is for sale again at an eve higher price. Looks like they are just tidying up on what I did and passing it on again. Does actually give a degree of satisfaction that the car has a new lease of life from the sad car I purchased at the start of this.
