Still Undecided 991 Turbo S
Discussion
OP - it's probably going to make little to no difference to the value of your car/running costs etc. but given the expected delivery date it may be worth considering whether you want the car to be registered before or after the new vehicle excise duty rates come in on 1 April 2017:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vehicle...
It's not going to have a massive impact in the short term, but once the car is say 10 years old people may prefer to have a post 1 April 2017 car (tax of £140 instead of £515 a year).
Not the biggest of costs when running a 911 Turbo so it shouldn't really be a factor, but I guess psychologically it may come in.
Just some food for thought while you wait for the car

I think this thread has help me decide on the next purchase also. I Was looking at a 3 year old 991 T S, McLaren 12C or potentially a California. Not sure I would be brave enough to buy new (although I would love a new one!) as I am not sure I could deal with the first 3 years depreciation.
If anyone that has just ordered could PM me with the financials of the deal they got or roughly what it looked like and any thoughts around how they have gotten their head around the 35% (ish) first 3 year depreciation I would really appreciate it. Is it that you just take it on the chin, dont care because you are so fabiously wealthy it doesnt matter or is there something I am missing?
Cheers!

The depreciation may well actually be horrible as you say. Unfortunately you have to do the man math, which actually means take this on the chin if you buy new. Brave?, well some would say financially unsound - or stupid, or irresponsible depending on your circumstances. If anyone that has just ordered could PM me with the financials of the deal they got or roughly what it looked like and any thoughts around how they have gotten their head around the 35% (ish) first 3 year depreciation I would really appreciate it. It's like renting the car for around a 1000 per month though isn't it? Look at the comparable Lease deal rates! --
I initially was looking at 1 year old low mileage versions - and if I could have found one close to the spec I really wanted then may have gone this way. Most I looked at were typical anodyne colours and comfort spec rather than puposeful so I sold myself up. One thing that helped was the death of a number of celebs that supported the man math ..."enjoy it, you could be dead tomorrow" haha
Not being funny but had I been pushed and unable to write it off in my head then this is the way to go. You can extend it further to non S models too.
Either way you're getting a cracking car.
I used it the other day for my DD route. Driving it in normal, auto, it was superb comfort ride. Great interior (imo), nice toys, environment - could have been in a luxury saloon driving seat.
Flick it into sport plus press the button and it flies. Great all round car, but I'm resisting putting the golf clubs on the back seats just yet.

A good point & my Dealer did say the same, but should be fine as hoping to get the car for a March 1st delivery or certainly around that time.https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vehicle...

Thanks for the response!
I have lived large chunks of my life under that same philosophy, you can actually end up justifiying almost anything that way and for me not sure it has always been the best idea........ Still, had a good time!
I am a few months away from doing anythins so I will have to do the sums when I am ready to do something. I have never purchased a brand new car and now sure I could cut the maths any way to maske it work for me. We will see though I guess!
Cheers!

Couldn't agree more. Yes the money could more sensibly go somewhere else. But what's life for? It's like renting the car for around a 1000 per month though isn't it? Look at the comparable Lease deal rates! --

I think the depreciation will be more than £36k in 3 years (£1k pm) though - I'm budgeting close to that for year one...

When I was looking at the new 991.2 turbo S the SE told me to expect a loss of £20k +, and another -£8k more if I traded it in to them at the end of a year!!! I think the depreciation will be more than £36k in 3 years (£1k pm) though - I'm budgeting close to that for year one...

Nothing wrong with that then as is less than 15% in year 1. I'd naturally factor over 20% so quite pleased with that.W8PMC said:
I have no idea why the lead times have shot up over the last few weeks, but it seems to be the case at most/all OPC's.
When i started looking & first called into OPC Bolton in February, the lead times were 6mths but the Gen 2 Turbo S had not long been launched & the dealer cars were only arriving later in February. Now they're in the wild & they've had some fantastic reviews in the press, i guess demand has increased quickly & thus the lead times risen. Can only be a good thing for buyers though assuming they're prepared to wait.
The anomaly car is the Macan GTS which is currently suffering with 18mth lead times & i found that more than a little surprising.

Silverstone and Mayfair both have brand new 991.2 Turbo S's sat in their showrooms. Silverstone's is Gulf Blue and has been there for a month or so....Mayfair's is Dark Blue
Mayfair's is actually a former customer car - I think it only has about 250 miles on the clock. Lovely spec - it has just about everything.ab80 said:

Ah I didn't look too closely....just saw the £162k price tag so assumed it was new! Wonder why you'd buy a car like that and only do 250 miles in it.
If you ask them about this individual they might tell you his name, but suffice to say he buys a lot of cars and not all of them get used a great deal.9e 28 said:

I've gone for a 570GT, which should tackle the refinement issue. To my mind, it looks the best, and is the one which has an appeal as something 'new'. (i had an original V8 R8, and Huracan didn't appeal when I had an extended test drive)
Very happy with choice now, but ironically I only really started looking at it after being (more than) messed around on the R. No more Porsches for me, for that reason alone.
Good for you - this halo car thing may hurt Porsche long term in the UKVery happy with choice now, but ironically I only really started looking at it after being (more than) messed around on the R. No more Porsches for me, for that reason alone.

Just bought a lightly used gen 2 Turbo S from my OPC, very impressed with how capable it is. And on a greasy day you still have to drive it like a 911. Lots of creature comforts and I still haven't worked out how to make the apple car play work consistently. The car connect app is cool.
that's fking lovely, black is the perfect colourCheib said:

Silverstone car is a non S.It's brand new though and there for the buying. Apparently it's due some orange stripes soon for the full Gulf effect.
