996 3.6 Mayo in cap a big problem?
Discussion
Hi guys first step in buying a 996 C:4 seen a very nice one but Mayo milky crap in oil filler cap, the car hasn't been used much over winter and has only done 1000 miles since Dec . Owner says no loss of coolant and car was serviced 2000 miles ago.
Is this just vapour build up or a first tell tale head gasket failure, car is 90k 2002 3.6 C4
What do you guys reckon ?

I came across this on a 10 month old Boxster S, and that was due to the fact that it was only just coming up to temperature due to a short drive. Ask the owner of the prospective purchase if you can take it for a test drive of around 30 minutes, offer to pay for the fuel and make it clear that you are a serious buyer, and then after the drive if the mayo has cleared from under the oil filler cap then chances are it is nothing to worry about.
One thing that I cannot recommend highly enough is to have a pre-purchase inspection done before buying the car. When selling a car I have had no problems with it providing the potential purchaser was paying for it. I am not aware how much a PPI is these days, but it could save you £££££ in the long run.
Good luck with the purchase!

Perfect colour, perfect wheels, just a shame about the roof!!
It was good enough for Kevin Bacon/Hollow Man...Looks really great, what bargains they are. I have those wheels, they are amazing but when it comes to washing the car... they had another 45 mins easily!
The mayo in the cap is not an issue if the coolant level never budges. My previous BMW and my 996 do this frequently.
I am with cmoose though, only takes a second for a seller to wipe it off!
