whilst on the m27 tonight fareham east bound minding my own business a bmw driver decides he wants to ram me and my bmw off the road.. i just came out of road works and brought it up to speed when i get a nudge in the rear and then he pulls alongside rams into the side of my car for some unknown reason.. my car being a now rare e34 540i manual and his an 520d.. he then drove off like a lunatic but i managed to get his reg.. no point giving chase and putting other people at risk i thought police might be helpfull.. appears not.. hoping his car has as much damage as mine.. i work in a bodyshop so not to much of a big deal for me. i would just like to know why people do this.. if anyone knows this plate LX57 WKS tell him hes a massive cock.. thanks
I once had a run in with a seriously mad driver of a 5 series. Might have been the same one. But it was ages ago. He was mad, maybe high, I don't know. Seemed like major anger issues. He was going crazy because I wasn't driving close enough to the car in front and he was worried that someone might push in and push us back. He was behind me at the time. He got out and came to my car and started threatening to kill me. Seriously, he was crazed. I did nothing to anger him at all. In the end I pulled over and let him go past, I was really worried he might ram my car. He kept driving up really close to me, accelerating and then braking hard as if he was going to ram me. I called the police and they said they were aware of him and would pull him over up ahead. There were police ahead at the time. I got the impression he wasn't the sort of man to mess with.
Edit: found my notes on my phone from 2013! My run in was with a silver E60 and it had a private plate.

The Police who were called out showed no interest whatsoever. The Reg was taken and they know where he lives, but apparently it'll be a "slow process".
I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same copper.

All this to think about as I walk to work 99% of the time (135i on drive).
Battling with traffic everyday MM and then people like this. Been offered a job at Arqiva Crawley Court, just for shear agro on roads I'm prob going to decline.
Will keep an eye out for said car. Will also speak to brother in law... (BIB).

I heard almost exactly the same thing from a friend the other day. It absolutely beggars belief. The police could check the culprit's car for corresponding damage for starters and a quick paint analysis would prove whether you had come into contact. By ignoring crimes like this the police are encouraging vigilante behaviour. If someone hits me and drives off I now know the police will do sod all and will be more likely to pursue the offender and sort out the issue myself...
You may also have heard last year that a VW T5 van owner had his expensive front spoiler ripped off whilst it was parked. Against all odds his dashcam kept working and recorded the offender's face very clearly. He was quickly identified through Facebook and his home address and record were even posted on line. Police reaction? Too much trouble to pursue him

You can fill out a form from the DVLA and request driver details. Send him/her an invoice for the damage.
I have a feeling that form also supplies the details of the driver's insurer. I got in touch with them and put the claim in there, just over a grands worth of damage I believe.You can get a driver's insurance policy details for £4 from AskMID;
http://www.askmid.com/askmidenquiry.aspx
Nothing to stop you from getting his policy details and starting a claim.
As previous poster said, you can also get a form V888 and fill in the vehicle details to get owner details
Good luck OP.
