You've enjoyed the Aston, give the 458 a go wink The more cars the merrier. You only live once and all that...

Been there and done it more than a few times. They are great cars but, I dont get the thrill from them. I enjoyed driving my Boxster Spyder over my old 458 Speciale. Why? The 458 felt like it was simply trying too hard, it was great to drive but always felt like a complete tt.

This is actually quite an interesting question as I always thought I'd get a 458 myself at some point...

458 POSITIVES
  • Proper supercar
  • Better performance
  • It's a Ferrari!
  • Great reviews

V12 VANTAGE POSITIVES
  • Classier
  • Proper boot
  • Manual
  • It's an Aston!
  • No negative reaction
  • The V12 and it's noise
  • More hand built feeling interior
  • Steady price / appreciation

In an ideal world of course you'd have both... biggrin

can you not hire one for a weekend and see what you make of it?

IMO, The V12V epitomises everything good about a sports car, driving, and feel good factor, coupled with public admiration. Ferraris are generally not practical, usable cars and the public think you're just a cock!

Haven't owned but driven several 458's. The double clutch just isn't to my taste, it's far too civilised, that's why I much preferred my Scud'. The current crop of modern F cars have lost the raw edge that I found exciting, too cosseted, too BMW for me, you need to take one for n extended test drive and evaluate.
IMO the V12V is a much better all rounder and doesn't attract the wrong kind of attention like my Ferraris always did.

Phil, love the wheels on your car, what make, model, size are they please

Ha, yes definitely stay away from the red ones unless you want constant attention... I've always fancied a matte silver one with yellow brake calipers.

As has been said by Rob above, definitely worth test driving one. I'd imagine it'd be like my previous R8 (albeit far more powerful) where the real fun happens when you drive it fast whereas the V12V provides great enjoyment at a slower speeds as well, ie a great all rounder.

Now get that test drive booked so you can share your experiences... smile

Have plenty of test drives of the 458 first.
I wouldn't rush selling your V12.

If you want the badge, then you want the badge and get the Ferrari and come back to Aston. I think there could be regret swapping the V12 manual for a badge. If you're looking for the fastest supercar in that price bracket - it's got to be a Mclaren. But if I had a V12 manual and could only have one, I'm not sure if be ditching the V12 at the moment for a variety of reasons.

See if you can get enough 458 exposure to burn off the immediate desire and come to your senses and see the V12 for what it is smile

Have fun choosing! At the end of the day, they're both great cars. The only real answer is to buy both!!!!!

I remember in my miss spent youth fitting a centre console to my old escort. It had a minimalist dash too.
